Hey everyone! Sorry I’m posting a bit late. It’s been a crazy week between work, school AND my DIRECTV being out for a few days! In any case, here’s what I thought of NBC’s new Comedy Drama!
I. Loved. It. With weeks and weeks of buildup, this show was getting a ton of buzz and, from what I saw, it was all positive. The promos not only give viewers a glimpse of Milo Ventimiglia’a backside, but also the premise of the show…four characters that share the same birthday.
We’re introduced to Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and his wife, Rebecca (Mandy Moore). They’re a young couple who are about to be parents to triplets.
We also meet Kate (Chrissy Metz) who is a 36 year old woman struggling with her weight.
Randall (Sterling K. Brown) appears to be a very successful business man with a wife and two beautiful daughters. Apparently he’s been searching for his birth father, who left him as a newborn on the steps of a fire station.
Kevin (Justin Hartley) is the star of a TV series called The Man-ny and seems to be struggling with the fact that he’s turning 36.
How fabulous was Gerald McRaney playing Jack and Rebecca’s replacement doctor??
Now that the introductions are out of the way, let’s get to the episode! Jack, Kate, Randall and Kevin all share the same birthday and are all turning 36. The writing of this show is excellent and the cast is incredible. We now know the main characteristics of these characters and what will most likely drive their characters in the coming weeks. Randall will explore the relationship between himself and his father, Kate will try to lose weight and rediscover herself, Kevin will try to work through his existential crisis and Jack will learn how to father three children at once.
This show has promise and I definitely recommend it to TV watchers everywhere! I can’t wait to see where they take the character development in future episodes!
***If you haven’t seen the episode yet, please stop here because I want to talk about the plot twist at the end!***
Holy shish kabobs!! This is what we’ve been missing!! That plot twist at the end made my jaw drop…literally! They’re all related!!! I mean we were told that Kevin and Kate are twins, but Randall being their adopted brother & Jack being their father?!?! I’ve heard stories about people discovering the twist at different points, so I’m curious when you all did. I noticed it when the man offered Jack a cigarette in the hospital and lit one up in the hallway. Then the camera panned out to show people in 70s clothing. I mean how creative is that?? To show the past and the future on this parallel plane is an incredible concept and I can’t wait to see where they take it!
What did you all think of the episode? Are you hooked like I am? Let me know!
