LEATHERFACE (2017) | Trailer Review

Hey there, everyone! I’m excited to announce a new writer for According to Kristin! Andrew is a HUGE fan of horror movies and will be reviewing trailers & movies for you all to enjoy!

You can find him on Facebook HERE.

Here is his review of the trailer for LEATHERFACE, which will be released exclusively on DirecT on September 21, 2017. The film will also have a limited theatrical run and full VOD release on October 20, 2017.

leatherface_xlgSteely-eyed, perspiration running down his big bald head, and chomping at the bit for a long-sought victory, Charlie Brown grinds his foot into the mud and starts barreling down.  He’s staring down that pigskin like a bull who’s just seen every shade of red imaginable.  Moving like a freight train, the laces are now in his crosshairs, and with each passing step, his worry fades, his confidence grows, and he thinks to himself, “Maybe, just maybe this time, I’m gonna kick that freakin’ thing a mile long”.

…annnnnnd then Lucy yanks the football away again, leaving poor schmuck Chuck flat on his back.

If you’re a fan of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre series, that’s pretty much been your last decade-and-a-half.  We’ve been treated to a remake no one particularly asked for, a prequel to a remake that no one particularly asked for, and let’s not forget Texas “Do Your Thing, Cuz” Chainsaw 3D, the plot-hole ridden follow-up to the original no one particularly asked for.  Despite the cynicism, each time that rusty old chainsaw revved itself up in the trailer, you couldn’t help but get excited.  Perhaps the movie ended up being actually pretty fun (2003’s Chainsaw), or a giant Lone Star mess (2013’s 3D), but trailers are made to entice, they’re made to rouse expectations, and if they draw you in to plunk down some cash, they’ve done their job.

Enter the freshly-released red-band trailer for Leatherface, Lionsgate and Millennium Films’ upcoming prequel to a 43 year-old horror legend… that yet again, no one particularly asked for.  Years of teasing would have you be right to feel cynical.  Let’s use use the Oreo theory:  1974’s classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre would be the delicious center cream portion, with 2013’s Texas Chainsaw 3D and this year’s Leatherface representing the chocolate wafers that surround it on the outside– and there’s probably more movies in this franchise than there are people who prefer the chocolate in an Oreo.

As the title would suggest, Leatherface is an origin story surrounding the mystery of the titular character, who until now, has always remained a silent, brooding force.  In the events prior to 1974’s original, four young inmates kidnap a nurse while escaping from a mental institution, and go on a bloodbath of a road trip, while being pursued by a revenge-striken lawman (Stephen Dorff).  An intriguing setup to the classic story, it sounds like it will mix some of the best elements of The Devil’s Rejects into the recipe.

Even with recent history doing everything in its power to pour cold water all over this trailer- it does deliver all the Texas Chainsaw goodies in oh-so delicious spades- a creepy lullaby soundtrack, skin mask-sewing, old decrepit barns, hanging decorative animal bones, screaming chases in the woods, that unmistakable guttural rattle of the saw, buckets of blood, and of course, a derriere-angled walk through the fields.  Leatherface’s trailer doesn’t give too much away as far as plot, but we do get some intriguing new treats– the youngest member of the Sawyer family given his first chainsaw as a birthday present, a brutal diner massacre, and a child sporting a giant pig head.  If all of that didn’t begin to win you back, there’s also the heading on the trailer that this film is directed by Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, the duo behind 2007’s blood-drenched masterpiece, Inside (À l’intérieur).

You know what?  I’m sold.  Oreos and cynicism can take a hike.  Maybe there’s the chance it’ll all end up like the recent questionable Chainsaw entries when Leatherface greets us this fall, but hike Lucy the ball for another round cause maybe, just maybe this time we’ll kick it a mile long.

Movie Review by Kristin: KIDNAP | #kidnapmovie @kidnapmovie

img_9184

What’s up, movie lovers??

I had a chance to check out KIDNAP last weekend and thought it was absolutely insane! If you suffer from anxiety AT ALL, proceed with caution!

SYNOPSIS: A mother stops at nothing to recover her kidnapped son.

The movie starts out with Karla (Halle Berry) working at a diner while her young son, Frankie (Sage Correa) sits at the counter. Her replacement has yet to show up, which leaves Karla alone to serve the rude customers. She finally leaves and takes Frankie to the park where there’s a carnival going on.

Karla and Frankie have a “Marco/Polo” system to keep track of where the other one is because Frankie likes to hide, but Karla steps away from her son for a moment to answer a phone call from her divorce attorney and that’s a wrap. Karla frantically searches for Frankie around the carnival and sees him being led to a car by a stranger. She chases after him, but the car speeds away. Karla jumps in her mini van and chases them.

Now, I sat there wondering what the chances were that this stranger danger was able to have a conversation with Frankie while Karla was on the phone and then had the time to casually walk over to her car with him without anyone noticing anything suspicious. That’s just my analytical mind over thinking.

In any case, Karla chases the car on the highway in a desperate attempt to get her son back. Of course, in a car chase, you have to worry about dodging other cars and accidents, running out of gas and, in Karla’s situation, a strange dude who is threatening to kill her and Frankie if she continues to chase them. He even dangles Frankie out of the car while driving.

These people definitely messed with the wrong momma!! Karla does everything in her power to get Frankie back unscathed, even if it means crashing her car and sneaking into their creepy home. She discovers that this couple has been involved in a child abduction ring within four states and manages to save Frankie and two other girls in the process.

All in all, I thought this was a good movie. Can’t say it was my favorite, but it was cool to see the lengths someone might go to in order to save their child. Movies like this typically piss me off though because in this day and age, you can’t leave your child alone for a second without the possibility of something crazy like this happening. I found myself yelling at the TV for Karla not to pick up that phone call! Or, at the very least, not to turn around where she can’t see her son sitting alone on a bench. It’s definitely an edge-of-your seat kind of film!

The performances were fantastic too. Halle Berry as a frantic mom was the epitome of a strong woman, and the abductors were EXTRA creepy.

I’d recommend it though, so check it out!

AMERICAN ASSASSIN | Red Band Trailer! | #AmericanAssassin

IMG_9167

Ooooooh … I’m excited for this one!! This movie has a great cast, a fantastic storyline and the trailer certainly evokes a strong interest in checking out the rest of the film. It looks like the perfect balance of action, drama and edge-of-your-seat craziness!

The story centers around Mitch Rapp (Dylan O’Brien), a man who is no stranger to loss.  After losing his girlfriend/fiancé in a terrorist attack, he’s hell bent on seeking revenge. He’s sent to train with a Cold War veteran named Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton … yes, you heard correctly!) and together they’re led on an action-packed mission.

Based on the #1 Bestseller by the late Vince Flynn, AMERICAN ASSASSIN looks like it’ll be a strong contender among recent action films. What do you think? Are you as excited as I am??

AMERICAN ASSASSIN is set to be released in theaters on September 15, 2017!

Cast, Filmmakers Discuss Upcoming Film UNFORGETTABLE

Written by Jesus Figueroa (@Thisfunktional)

First time director Denis Di Novi sets a significant tone and mood for “Unforgettable” that the cast was thrilled to be a part of.

Katherine Heigl stars as Tessa Connover, who is barely coping with the end of her marriage when her ex-husband, David, played by Geoff Stults, becomes happily engaged to Julia Banks, played by Rosario Dawson, not only bringing Julia into the home they once shared but also into the life of their daughter, Lilly, played by Isabella Rice.

Trying to settle into her new role as a wife and a stepmother, Julia believes she has finally met the man of her dreams, the man who can help her put her own troubled past behind her.

But Tessa’s jealousy soon takes a pathological turn until she will stop at nothing to turn Julia’s dream into her ultimate nightmare.

Di Novi explained how it was great working with two strong lead actresses and a lead actor who were able to collaborate and make the directing process easier.

Heigl explained how even though Di Novi was a first time director her career of producing quality work made it easy for the actors to trust her and follow her direction because she know what made a great movie.

The movie has moments of suspense which really rock the audience and have a major impact in the story, but it also has sensual moments which although sexy also drive the story and add to the characters.

Dawson talked about how the sex scenes are difficult to get right because most directors are trying to get angles to make it sexual and the purpose is lost, but Di Novi was able to keep it sexy and at the same time keep the purpose clear.

The pacing of the movie keeps the intensity high, although there are moments which seem to have slowed to an almost halt.

The story is still always present and continues moving in a pace which keeps the audiences glued to the screen.

The two female leads do a fantastic job at making the audience feel for them, Stults said. Dawson and Heigl made these characters feel real and that they could possibly exist in the real world.

From the beginning the characters are established and some of the more impressive moments is how they interact with each other during different occasions and when different people.

The ending is reminiscent of other movies from the same genre so its not overly surprising, but the actors in this movie do some of the best work and Dawson stands out in such a role which stands out among the other roles she is always seen in.

I’m happy to announce that I have two (2) #SplitMovie prize packs to giveaway! Instructions on how to enter can be found below. Will you be checking out the film in theaters? Let me know what your favorite part of the trailer is. It’s definitely a thriller!

SYNOPSIS: Writer/director/producer M. Night Shyamalan returns to the captivating grip of The Sixth SenseUnbreakable and Signs with Split, an original thriller that delves into the mysterious recesses of one man’s fractured, gifted mind.  Following last year’s breakout hit The Visit, Shyamalan reunites with producer Jason Blum (The Purge and Insidious series, The Gift) for the film.

While the mental divisions of those with dissociative identity disorder have long fascinated and eluded science, it is believed that some can also manifest unique physical attributes for each personality, a cognitive and physiological prism within a single being.

Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others.  Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy, The Witch), Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him—as well as everyone around him—as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.

For Split, Shyamalan and Blum reassemble their core team from The Visit, the No. 1-grossing horror film of 2015.  Their fellow collaborators include producer Marc Bienstock and executive producers Ashwin Rajan and Steven Schneider.

SPLIT – New Trailer [#SplitMovie in Theaters January 2017]

Universal Pictures has debuted the new trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s SPLIT.

Watch the new trailer starring James McAvoy and Anya Taylor Joy arriving in theaters everywhere January 2017.

SPT_Tsr1Sheet_RGB_0720_3Writer/director/producer M. Night Shyamalan returns to the captivating grip of The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs with Split, an original film that delves into the mysterious recesses of one man’s fractured, gifted mind.  Following last year’s breakout hit The Visit, Shyamalan reunites with producer Jason Blum (The Purge and Insidious series, The Gift) for the thriller being hailed as “Shyamalan’s most terrifying film to date.”

Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities—each with unique physical attributes—to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr.

For the film The Guardian calls “a masterful blend of Hitchcock and horror,” Shyamalan and Blum reassemble their core team from The Visit, the No. 1-grossing horror film of 2015.  Their fellow collaborators on Split include producer Marc Bienstock and executive producers Ashwin Rajan and Steven Schneider.  www.splitmovie.com
