Downsizing imagines what might happen if, as a solution to over-population, Norwegian scientists discover how to shrink humans to five inches tall and propose a 200-year global transition from big to small. People soon realize how much further money goes in a miniaturized world, and with the promise of a better life, everyman Paul Safranek (Matt Damon) and wife Audrey (Kristen Wiig) decide to abandon their stressed lives in Omaha in order to get small and move to a new downsized community — a choice that triggers life-changing adventures.

Misadventures at Disney World

banner[1]

We’ve all heard that Disney is the happiest place on Earth, am I right? I wanted to share my experience from this past weekend that disproves that theory. Don’t get me wrong, I know this place is full of magic, but it’s also full of stress and germs and bratty kids and thieves lol.

Let me start out by saying that I have anxiety that, for the most part, lies dormant until I have to drive on a highway or something. So in my 18 years of driving, I’ve never driven to Orlando for a trip to Disney. I spoke to my friend about this recently, so when her boyfriend asked if she wanted to go to Disney for her birthday weekend, she invited my niece and I to tag along. We’d be staying at different hotels and doing our own thing, and I took advantage of my first trip alone with the niece. Things didn’t turn out how I expected though…

My niece, Briana, didn’t have school the day we were leaving, so I requested time off from work so that we could leave early, get to Orlando early, and make it to the Mickey’s-Not-So-Scary-Halloween Party on time. We were already packed and ready to go, but we had to wait for my friend and her boyfriend to get out of work. While we were waiting, we decided to start watching Season 2 of Stranger Things (which is AMAZING, by the way). I thought we’d be in Orlando by about 7-8pm, but we ended up getting there at 9:50 and still had to check in at the hotel. Briana and I checked in, ran up to our room, changed our clothes and ran back down to the shuttle pick-up/drop-off. The shuttles are supposed to run every 30 minutes between the hotel and the parks, but we sat there for almost an hour with no pick-up. A shuttle finally arrived to drop some people off, so I asked the driver if he was heading back to Magic Kingdom. He said he wasn’t, but that he would take us anyway. He veered off-route to transport us to the park. We ran from the bus to the monorail and then ran from the monorail to the entrance only to discover that the parade was taking place. That meant that we couldn’t maneuver our way through the park because the streets and crosswalks were blocked off. We literally got to the park, waited for the parade to finish, rode the Haunted Mansion ride and then had to leave back to our hotel. By that time it was about 2am and all food options were closed. We had to try Uber Eats for the first time and the only option was McDonalds. What should have taken 15 minutes took an hour because the driver got lost on her way to our hotel.

Briana was so excited about going to Disney and I felt terrible that we were only able to spend about an hour there, so we got tickets to Magic Kingdom for the next day too.

On Saturday morning, we woke up and walked over to Disney Springs for some shopping and then went back to the hotel to get ready for Magic Kingdom. We took the shuttle and monorail (again) only to be greeted with cloudy skies and ridiculously long lines. Have you ever been on the magic teacup ride?? This was my first time and I was convinced that part of the fun was watching people stumble out of the teacups. My brain was spinning inside my head for way longer than it probably should have been. While we were waiting for the Winnie the Pooh ride we witnessed a kid bite his mom because she told him he couldn’t do something, and another kid throw a tantrum because he clearly didn’t want to go on a ride but his parents were insisting. When we got off the ride it was beginning to rain, so we decided to go back to the hotel for a few hours and then come back in time for the fireworks.

What should’ve taken about 10 minutes on the monorail took about 30 minutes because one of the kids kept leaning on the doors causing the monorail to stop. Then we had to wait to catch the shuttle back to the hotel and the driver decided to stop at almost every park imaginable to pick people up. What should’ve taken about 20 minutes on the shuttle took about an hour. We literally got to the hotel, used the restroom and then had to run back downstairs to catch the next shuttle to Magic Kingdom.

As we’re getting off of the monorail for what seemed like the hundredth time, we realized it was pouring. Of course, Briana and I had no ponchos or umbrellas because why would we? We live in Florida! It never rains! I hope you caught the sarcasm there. We stood in the pouring rain for three hours surrounded by thousands of people in ponchos. Our hair was dripping, our clothes were sticking to our bodies, our glasses were unusable and we were freezing. When the fireworks were over, we TRIED to rush to the monorail to get back to our hotel, but apparently every single person at the park was leaving at the same time. We had to wait almost an hour for the ride and then ran to the shuttle parking area. We waited there for another hour, in the pouring rain, for a shuttle that never came because it had broken down on another route. My friend had to call an Uber for us.

I’ll spare the details on how we had to defrost ourselves in our hotel room, but when we finally did, Briana found out that a band she likes was doing a meet and greet in Orlando the day after we were leaving. She missed them by one day. ONE DAY!!

As we were packing our things to leave, Briana realized that her little stuffed hippo, Minty, was missing. We undid all of our bags, shook out the sheets on the beds and lifted up chairs, but Minty was lost. We checked out, called lost and found…still no luck. Briana was devastated. I’d bought this thing for her before she was even born. She took it on every trip and had to have it in any room she slept in. It was MINTY!! Someone actually picked up a 13 year old stuffed animal from a hotel lobby and kept it. In Orlando. Where everyone is probably going to spend all their money on stuffed toys and keychains after visiting the parks anyway. OR, someone’s kid picked up this stuffed animal that could’ve belonged to a young child who drooled and wiped sticky hands all over it and allowed them to keep it. I have strong feelings about this, ladies and gentleman! It’s crazy how much sentimental value could lie within a silly, old stuffed animal that had been washed a hundred times! Here’s a picture of the stuffed animal that someone robbed us of:

51Y5ZKVYQQL._SY300_QL70_[1]

Side note: Have you ever stood at one of these Disney parks and think about how much money is actually walking around it? There are literally thousands and thousands of people who have paid over one hundred dollars each to get in. Not to mention the souvenirs, food and drinks that are bought. So much money goes into these parks yet the prices keep rising. It’s insane!

Sounds like a disaster, doesn’t it?? Even though literally nothing went right on this trip, I still got to spend time with the niece and we had some crazy laughing fits. From the guy slamming his face into the plastic window on the bus as it took a wide turn, to the bratty kid’s mom’s reaction when her son bit her arm, to the missions we went on together. It was a beautiful disaster if you ask me!

Movie Review by Kristin: THOR: RAGNAROK | #ThorRagnarok #thor @thorofficial

IMG_0855

Helloooooooo, movie lovers!!

I got to see a 3-D screening of THOR: RAGNAROK last night here in Miami, and I have to say . . . this might just take the top spot for me! It’s definitely the most entertaining of the Thor movies.

Now, I might be a bit biased because I love me some Chris Hemsworth, but this movie had the perfect balance of action and comedy that I felt set it apart from the others. I don’t remember the other films being consistently funny throughout the entire two hours, but this one had everyone laughing (in a good way) for a lot of it. The interactions between Thor and Hulk were some of the best moments for me. I also loved the female presence in this one. Cate Blanchett as Hela aka the Goddess of Death, and Tessa Thompson were such bad asses in this movie and it’s nice to see women being represented as such in a genre geared towards boys and men. Women enjoy these characters and films too, so it’s nice to see them being included and represented as strong, powerful beings that can kick ass with the best of them!

The cast was fantastic, and there were even a few surprise appearances thrown in that made it even better. I’m about to throw in a spoiler alert regarding those appearances, so if you don’t want to know, skip through to the synopsis.

SPOILER ALERT: Doctor Strange played a small part in the film, Matt Damon goes uncredited but plays an actor imitating Loki.

SYNOPSIS: Imprisoned, the mighty Thor finds himself in a lethal gladiatorial contest against the Hulk, his former ally. Thor must fight for survival and race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home and the Asgardian civilization.

This is definitely my favorite Thor movie. If you’re contemplating whether or not to see it in 3-D, I say do it! I wear glasses all of the time, so it’s a bit of a hassle having to put those 3-D glasses on top of my own and it distorts the picture just a bit BUT the effects were great and it was still a cool experience. Whether it’s 3-D or not, I strongly suggest seeing this one in the theater. Check it out for yourself and let me know your thoughts on this comedic direction!

TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX FILM ANNOUNCES RELEASE OF

“HOME” BY ACTOR, MULTI-PLATINUM AND GRAMMY NOMINATED SINGER NICK JONAS FROM FERDINAND SOUNDTRACK

Original song from the forthcoming animated feature released today

Twentieth Century Fox today announced the release of “Home” an original song by Nick Jonas from the forthcoming animated feature FERDINAND.

“I’ve always wanted to write an original song for a film,” says Jonas. “When they showed me the materials of the movie, FERDINAND, a story I was familiar with, I was thrilled.”

FERDINAND tells the story of a giant bull with a big heart. After being mistaken for a dangerous beast, he is captured and torn from his home. Determined to return to his family, he rallies a misfit team on the ultimate adventure. Set in Spain, Ferdinand proves you can’t judge a bull by its cover.

Jonas says “Home” encompasses the film’s theme of acceptance. “I wrote this song with good friends of mine Justin Tranter and Nick Monson,” says Jonas. “And we wrote about feeling accepted and feeling loved, wherever that place is for you. For me it’s home, it’s my family, people I have closest to me; and the experiences we’ve shared.”

FERDINAND is directed by Carlos Saldanha, the director of “Rio” and inspired by the beloved book “The Story of Ferdinand” by Munro Leaf and Robert Lawson. The heartwarming animated comedy adventure features an all-star cast that includes John Cena, Kate McKinnon, Gina Rodriguez, Anthony Anderson and many more. It will be released by Twentieth Century Fox on December 15, 2017. The film’s soundtrack will be release by Island Records on December 1, 2017.

TIM MCGRAW & FAITH HILL: Soul2Soul World Tour 2017 (Review)

IMG_0712

Hey there music lovers!! I’m back with another live show review! Yesterday afternoon, my niece’s mom sent me a text asking if I was a fan of country music. Now, admittedly, I love all kinds of music, but country isn’t my top choice. However, I love me some Faith Hill and Tim McGraw! When I heard she had tickets to their show last night in Sunrise, FL, I had to say YESSSSSSSS!

I invited my cowboy-boot-wearing, country-music-loving friend and we drove out in the rain to catch the show. This might’ve been the first time in my life that I went to a show where I didn’t know every song being played, but it didn’t even matter!

The show opened up with Locash, who I, personally, had never heard of before, but they sounded great. They did a fantastic job at hyping up the crowd before Faith & Tim came out, which is always a solid accomplishment for an opening act. I’m always open to new music, so I’ll definitely be checking them out now after seeing them perform live.

One thing I want to note about the show was that the visual effects and staging were SO good. I even want to say the whole set up was one of the best I’ve ever seen–and I’ve been to A LOT of live shows! There were hi-def lasers, floating lights, moving see-through banners and hi-def visuals on the huge screen on stage. I don’t think there could have been one bad seat in the house because most of the performances were put up on the screen like this:

IMG_0677

The vocals throughout the entire show were well worth the soggy shoes I was wearing for almost four hours (did I mention it was raining?). The two swapped off between singing duets and doing their own solo music, and everything really flowed nicely. The one thing I admire about these two is how they’ve been married for 21 years, they have three beautiful daughters, yet they still look (and act) like they’re dating. The fact that they did this joint tour together is a testament to that and it was adorable! They had so much energy throughout the entire show as well, which kept the energy in the crowd on fire the whole time!

#ThrowbackThursday | Week 1 | 112 – “Cupid” [video]

IMG_0536

Today is dedicated to our beloved throwbacks. 90% of the time I’m thinking about music, so here ya go lol.

As always, I’m open to suggestions!

Here is this today’s throwback video:

Fun Fact: I was in 8th grade when this song came out. In my Chorus class (yes, I was always a Chorus nerd) we had designated days where we had to “teach” the class. We had to print out enough copies of the lyrics to a song for each student and then “teach” them to sing that particular song. This was my song of choice lol.

#MovieWednesday: Week 1 | Star Wars: The Last Jedi, The Princess Diaries and Justice League

IMG_0554

Hey hey hey!! Happy Hump Day!

Today is dedicated to movies, movies and more movies. So, grab your popcorn and prepare for trailers, release dates, casting news, etc. I’m hoping to have some podcasts posted here as well, so if I can wrangle in some of my cohorts, those will be included on certain Wednesdays too.

I can’t complete my first #MovieWednesday without mentioning the new Star Wars trailer! Ho. Ly. Crap. Balls. The anticipation for this one is REAL! If you’re one of like five people who hasn’t seen it yet, you can watch it below:

Ahhhhhh!!! Were you as impressed and worried as I was?? I work with two Star Wars fanatics who are uber excited about the idea that Rey might turn to the dark side alongside Kylo Ren, but I refuse to accept this. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that perhaps she’s teaming up with Luke Skywalker and pretending to side with Kylo Ren in order to retaliate for (SPOILER ALERT!!!!!) killing Hans Solo. Think I’m reaching? You’re not the only one haha. Let me know what YOU thought!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set to be released in theaters December 15, 2017 and tickets are available now!

PB1208[1]This is a rather random choice for #MovieWednesday, but who cares? It’s a movie! I’ve heard so many people talking about the 1987 film The Princess Bride, but I, personally, have never seen it. I decided to change that and I recorded it on my DVR last week. I finally sat down to watch it and realized that it wasn’t necessarily what I expected. It was odd, it was far-fetched, it was cute, it was romantic, it was funny and I liked it! Have you seen it before? Want me to shut up about it now? … As you wish …

One movie that I’m really excited about is Justice League! I don’t even think I need to give an explanation as to why! lol. I’m excited to see Jason Momoa embrace the role of Aquaman, and I’m stoked to see a female superhero (Wonder Woman) holding her own amongst some of the best male superheroes. I’m still a bit salty that Grant Gustin didn’t get to play The Flash in the film since he plays him so well on The CW, but I digress. Check out the newest trailer and let me know your feelings. Who are you most excited to see?

Here are the newest movie posters for Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Justice League:

#TVTuesday: Week 1 | This Is Us, Shadowhunters, Fear the Walking Dead/The Walking Dead & DWTS

IMG_0538

Hey, everyone! Happy Tuesday!

Today is all about TV here on According to Kristin. What I’m watching, what I’ve been wanting to watch, what others are watching that I haven’t gotten into, etc.  As always, I’m open to any suggestions for shows you want me to check out. Even if you just want to rant or rave about a recent episode of a show…tweet me all about it @thisiskristin_!

I admit…I watch a lot of TV. I started doing podcast reviews with some of my friends, which has kept me in front of the TV instead of in the gym lol. BUT, I plan on watching the shows while I’m at least running on the treadmill every night. 😜

IMG_0606

One of my absolute favorites at the moment is This Is Us. Even just the trailer for the NBC show had me hooked! This is the first time in my life that I’ve witnessed a show that touches on every possible situation and curve ball that life can throw your way. And to do it with such an incredible cast is the icing on the cake. Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown, Justin Hartley, Chrissy Metz, Susan Kelechi Watson and everyone else involved with this show deserve all the praise in the world. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but if you haven’t seen an episode of this show, you should definitely change that asap.

A show I recently binge-watched was Shadowhunters, which can be found on Freeform (formerly ABC Family). A friend from work recommended it to me, so I binged it on Hulu and loved it. The acting is suspect at times, but the premise for the show is interesting. I saw the Mortal Instruments film a few years ago and this is based on the same concept and the same novel by Cassandra Clare. The show stars Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Matthew Daddario, Emeraude Toubia, Harry Shum, Jr., Alberto Rosende and Isaiah Mustafa (the Old Spice guy!!). The special effects are pretty decent and the soundtrack is amazing. I’ll be talking about the artist, Ruelle (who sings the title track for the show and also has a few other songs that are featured), A LOT, so check her out wherever you download or stream music.

Last night Danay Garcia posted a photo on her Instagram that sent Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead fans spiraling down the rabbit hole! We’ve been speculating whether or not they would merge the two shows at some point and we’ve been shot down at every conspiracy theory, BUT it is finally confirmed that this will happen!! Not sure when, why, or how, but it’s going to happen at some point and I’m excited for it!

Don’t forget to catch The Walking Dead is back on AMC October 22nd!

IMG_0609

One of my guilty pleasure shows is Dancing With the Stars. I know, I know…don’t judge me! I wasn’t really interested in this season except for seeing Jordan Fisher and Lindsey Stirling though. I spoke about Jordan Fisher yesterday for #MusicMonday, but watching him dance is a whole other ballgame. He performed a Contemporary dance last night with his partner Lindsay Arnold that was absolutely beautiful! He can literally do anything! You can watch their dance below:

Lindsey Stirling is an incredible violinist, but she’s also proving herself on the dance floor. She’s used to jumping around on stage when she’s playing the violin, but she’s a self-proclaimed clumso too. It doesn’t show though! I probably would’ve been tripping over my own two feet if I attempted even five seconds of this dance lol!

Check out her Jive with Mark Ballas from last week’s episode below:

Let me know what you’re watching! Tell me about a recent episode that made you cry and reevaluate life. There are so many shows out right now, it’s hard to keep up!

See you all next week for #TVTuesday!

#MusicMonday | Sam Smith, Maroon 5, One Republic, Jordan Fisher, In Real Life & Fall Out Boy

IMG_0525

What’s up, everyone??

Welcome to #MusicMonday here at According to Kristin! I’ve been wanting to get a bit more personal on the blog, and Music is the most personal for me…so here we are! I’ll be posting here on certain Mondays, and sometimes I might add in a podcast or two. I’m hoping to have guests on and even try scheduling some interviews, so if you have any suggestions, please feel free to let me know! Let me know what you’re currently listening to, what albums and tours you’re excited about. You can even tag me on Twitter with a performance you think I should check out. I’m open to all suggestions!

I’ve always been a music fanatic, so I’m sure Mondays will be extra therapeutic for me now as I’ll be able to discuss all of the aspects that make up one of my first loves. Music is my escape from the world. When I’m stressed at work, the power of an ear bud is priceless. I just pop one into my ear and the calmness takes over. I honestly don’t know where I’d be without it (both music, and the ear bud lol).

So, here are some of the things that have interested me in the music world this week:

Sam Smith
has (finally) announced a new album and tour, following the release of his newest single, “Too Good At Goodbyes.” The single is lit and the album and tour are sure to be just as incredible-it IS Sam Smith, after all. The album is titled “The Thrill Of It All” and will be available on November 3rd. You can pre-order the album on his web store HERE. You can also follow him on Twitter and Instagram by clicking on the respective links.

Not to be left out, Maroon 5 (@maroon5) also announced details for their new album, titled “Red Pill Blues,” set to be released on the same day, November 3rd. Here is the track listing for both the 12-Track Standard Edition and the 15-Track Deluxe Edition of their sixth studio album:

One song that I’m really enjoying this week is One Republic‘s “Rich Love,” and you can catch the video for that below:

If you haven’t seen One Republic (@onerepublic) live before, I strongly suggest you change that. I saw them in West Palm Beach, FL when they went on tour with The Script (who will definitely make an appearance on #MusicMonday) and it was nothing short of amazing. They’re high energy throughout the whole show and their vocals are always on point. Do it and you can thank me later!

The next two artists that I want to mention are both signed to Hollywood Records.

Jordan Fisher (@jordan_fisher) is a triple-threat who is soon to be dominating the charts with his upcoming debut album. He’s currently dancing his way to the mirror ball trophy on Dancing With the Stars, he has a new single, “Mess,” which was released last week and an album that is on its way to the shelves. Not sure if you familiar with him? He was on Broadway with the hit show Hamilton, he was on Disney’s Teen Beach Movie and he also played Doody on the live version of Grease. Check out his new single, “Mess,” wherever you download/stream music and also feel free to check out his videos on YouTube. Again…you can thank me later! I’m just wondering if dude could show me how to dance lol!

I’ve posted a few times about In Real Life (@inreallife) because they’re new to the scene and they deserve the exposure. I was exposed to them when my niece started watching ABC’s Boy Band, and my friend Jesus @thisfunktional got a chance to speak with them out in California last week at the Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor event. I was excited for them when I found out that they’ll be under Johnny Wright’s wing for the duration (hopefully) of their career because he’s worked with some of the best in the industry! Their debut single, “Eyes Closed,” has done well since its release and they have a fantastic marketing team that has been putting them in some of the best places since the show ended. They’re currently playing little shows while they record new music and they just wrapped a music video for their original Christmas song that should be released soon.

fall-out-boy-mania-art-2017-billboard-embed

Last, but certainly not least…my little sis, Brancey, absolutely loves Fall Out Boy (@falloutboy), so it wouldn’t be a discussion about music without talking about their new single and their pushed back “Mania” album, set to release in January 2018.

You can hear Brancey and I rambling on the podcast below. Also, don’t mind the little section in the middle where Skype decided it hated us and cut off our recording lol. Shout out to Jesus for splicing them together for us lmao!

SPIES IN DISGUISE Starring Will Smith & Tom Holland

Fox Animation, Chernin Entertainment and Blue Sky Studios have announced the voice casting for their upcoming animated film SPIES IN DISGUISE.

SPIES IN DISGUISE is a buddy comedy set in the high octane globe-trotting world of international espionage. Will Smith (Men in Black) voices Lance Sterling, the world’s most awesome spy. Cool, charming and super-skilled, saving the world is his occupation. And nobody does it better.

Almost the exact opposite of Lance is Walter, voiced by Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming). Walter is a great mind but perhaps not a great socializer. What he lacks in social skills though, he makes up for in smarts and invention: Walter is the scientific genius who invents the gadgets Lance uses on his missions.

But when events take an unexpected turn, Walter and Lance suddenly have to rely on each other in a whole new way. And if this odd couple can’t learn to work as a team, the whole world is in peril.

Directed by Nick Bruno & Troy Quane, SPIES IN DISGUISE is a Fox Animation production, with Blue Sky Studios and Chernin Entertainment. The project is based on Pigeon: Impossible, an original animated short film by Lucas Martell.

PROFESSOR MARSTON & THE WONDER WOMEN | New York Comic Con Trailer Released!

IMG_0319

PROFESSOR MARSTON & THE WONDER WOMEN debuted a new trailer this weekend at New York Comic Con! Check out the trailer below and see Luke Evans, Rebecca Hall and Bella Heathcote in theaters this Friday!

SYNOPSIS: In a superhero origin tale unlike any other, the film is the incredible true story of what inspired Harvard psychologist Dr. William Moulton Marston to create the iconic Wonder Woman character in the 1940’s. While Marston’s feminist superhero was criticized by censors for her ‘sexual perversity’, he was keeping a secret that could have destroyed him. Marston’s muses for the Wonder Woman character were his wife Elizabeth Marston and their lover Olive Byrne, two empowered women who defied convention: working with Marston on human behavior research — while building a hidden life with him that rivaled the greatest of superhero disguises.

Also, don’t miss the PROFESSOR MARSTON & THE WONDER WOMEN Comic Book cover designed by Terry Moore!
