Hey everyone!  Keisha & I got together recently to watch and review Broken Kingdom.  It’s a fabulous indie film created by the wonderful Daniel Gillies.  He put his blood, sweat and  tears into making this film, and it’s definitely worth checking out!  You can rent ($2.99) or purchase ($5) a digital copy of Broken Kingdom (synopsis below) by visiting brokenkingdomfilm.com. You can also opt to purchase a combo of Broken Kingdom and a documentary entitled Kingdom Come for $8 (documentary synopsis below).

SYNOPSIS: Two stories weave their way from the harrowing slums of Bogotá to the hills of Hollywood. A 14-year-old street girl and an American writer discover an uncommon union, while a day-care teacher in Los Angeles does everything she can to fight the weight of a tragic secret.

Six college students have found the ultimate graduation project: A documentary about one of the most notorious haunted houses in America. Lafitte Plantation is a Civil War landmark with a dark past, complete with stories of dead soldiers, murdered families, and restless shadows roaming its abandoned corridors. No one has entered Lafitte in years – until now. Venturing deep into the backwoods of Louisiana and outfitted with high-tech recording equipment, the intrepid filmmakers think they’re ready for anything. But something is watching, and as darkness falls and their fears come to life, one by one, they’ll learn the terrible secret of Lafitte. The dead are awake, and there are some places the living should never go.

I watched it…so what did I think?

I’m still in the dark with everything…which is a good thing.

They didn’t show too much…which is a REALLY good thing. (lol)

A lot of you don’t know this but – I used to dab in the paranormal. Yep. When I lived in South Texas – I was part of a paranormal group. Seriously…not even joking. I’ve got some dope EVP’s people. I guess that’s why I’m stoked in seeing this – – to visit a plantation like this – – the amount of energy there. Oh man. Talk about awesome! Ok – enough of me. Actor Julio Cedilla played Fausto Alarcon in a climactic scene in “Sicario” where main character Alejandro, played by Benicio del Toro.

Although it is just once scene for Cedilla, its a scene that held much importance and that the entire story less up to.

“You don’t over think it. It’s a piece of composition,” Cedilla said. “I was very fortunate to be cast in this film. I had originally said no because it was a different kind of scene.”

The role was re-written for Cedilla to accept it.

Director Denis Villeneuve wanted Cedilla to play the role and called Cedilla to find out why he didn’t want to play him.

Cedilla said the scene which he originally read was more violent, more bloody and there was no redeeming quality to Fausto.

“I didn’t want to be a token Mexican, playing a Mexican role, in a film where Mexicans get it in the end,” Cedilla said.

Villeneuve understood the concerns and was able to modify the role to take it away from a cliché climax.

Cedilla went to shoot the scene and felt he had walked into something special.

Working with Villeneuve and del Toro made the scene to him that much more glorified.

“Every one was very thoughtful and respectful,” Cedilla said. “Benecio is very inclusive. He makes you feel like you are part of the team.”

The scene was re-written and became something that Cedilla could really feel comfortable to be a part of.

“The feeling that got to me when we did the first take was ‘oh shit, this is intense,’ you feel whats going on,” Cedilla said.

Cedilla was able to feel the scene unfold and become the character.

The scene was directly with del Toro and Cedilla was able to react off the incredible acting talent.

“With actors like Benicio, you don’t have to imagine anything. It feels real,” Cedilla said.

The scene comes late in the film, but for those who follow the storyline it all comes down to what happens in that one scene.

The scene culminates the intense scenes throughout the film into this confrontation.

It is never clear if this is where the story will lead, but coming to this scene seems like a logical transition.

It plays out and feels very real.

“I’m only shooting part of the puzzle. I don’t know in the end how it’s going turn out,” Cedilla said. “Leaving the scene after we shot it was no big deal. Leaving the theater after I saw it that is what you were feeling and I was feeling. That’s a collective experience., that’s a testament to the people who are nurturing and taking care of the story all the way through.”

Hey movie fans!! So, I decided to check out this film that was featured on Netflix and decided to write my first review of 2016 on it! Check it out:

SYNOPSIS:  A modern day train hopper fighting to become a successful musician, and a single mom battling to maintain custody of her daughter, defy their circumstances by coming together in a relationship that may change each others lives forever. 

 

REVIEW:  As a HUGE music fan, I have to say I enjoyed watching this movie.  Ben Barnes definitely surprised me with his vocal abilities, as he provides the majority of the vocals on the soundtrack.  The acting by Barnes and Heigl were great as well.  People can say what they want about Heigl as a person on set, but no one can deny that the girl can act!  Either way, Barnes plays a tattooed drifter who will play whenever and to whoever will listen.  Heigl, a conservative ex-recording artist, meets him by chance and the two opposites help each other in ways they couldn’t imagine.  The movie was shot in just 20 days and has a raw, gritty feel to it.  Personally, I enjoyed it because it wasn’t a complete sappy love story, but others might see a lack of content.  If you love folk music and small production, indie films, you might want to check this one out.

Hey everyone!  So…I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for this release!  I admit, I read all of the books and then went FIVE TIMES to see Divergent in the theater lol. I think they’ve done a great job bringing Veronica Roth’s story to life, and I’m loving the trailer for Allegiant.

MIAMI – Minion Mayhem is coming to Miami!  The lovable stars of the Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment summer blockbuster hit, Minions, will be at the Ford Championship Weekend from November 20-22, it was announced today by Homestead-Miami Speedway.  The three Minions – Kevin, Stuart and Bob — will be a fixture throughout Homestead-Miami Speedway, making appearances with fans and participating in the Ford EcoBoost 400 pre-race ceremonies on Sunday, November 22.   Minions will be released November 24 on Digital HD and Blu-ray/DVD on December 8.

NBC News’ Anchor and “Today” Show co-host Hoda Kotb will serve as Grand Marshal at the Ford EcoBoost 400.  Ms. Kotb, the popular co-host of NBC’s “Today” fourth hour with Kathie Lee Gifford, is also a “Dateline NBC” correspondent and New York Times Bestselling author and has been at NBC since 1998.  She will give the command for drivers to start their engines prior to the Sprint Cup Series championship race on Sunday, November 22.

“We are extremely excited to have the Minions and Hoda Kotb join us for Ford Championship Weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway in November,” Homestead-Miami Speedway President Matthew Becherer said. “The Minions are characters beloved by both adults and kids and we think our fans are going to enjoy seeing them around the venue throughout our NASCAR weekend. Hoda is a household name in national news, and we are thrilled to have her join us for what is going to be an electrifying Ford EcoBoost 400.”

In addition, the Minions will introduce the “Minionwagon”, a one-of-a-kind Ford Transit Connect Wagon that will be making appearances on a road trip at select locations, including as the Grand Marshal car for Ford Championship Weekend and a stop at Universal Orlando® Resort, on their way to the Today Show in New York City.  The Minions will also be the entitlement sponsor of the “Minions Kids Zone” in the Homestead-Miami Speedway display area, making an appearance on November 22.
