FØNX delivers jazz-inspired grooves and sun-touched melodies, right on “Time”.
Drawing inspiration from the likes of George Benson and D’Angelo, FØNX delivers RnB-infused pop with jazz, funk and soul influences, merging catchy grooves, memorable hooks and intricate guitar licks with inspired lyrical content. ‘Time’ encapsulates these eclectic influences perfectly, packaging them into an infectious track exploring heartbreak and moving on from it.
“Music has always been the first thing I turn to when I need to vocalize my emotions. I wrote time after breaking up from a long-term relationship and finding out that this person had slept with someone new and clearly moved on swiftly. The only way for me to digest that was to write a song and include elements of humour to distract myself from the hurt,” FØNX explained.
Having first picked up the guitar at the tender age of 7, FØNX, whose real name is Corey Fox-Fardell, is set to release his debut EP later this year.
If ‘Time’ is anything to go by, it will be packed with irresistible grooves and masterful songwriting. With ongoing support from BBC Introducing, a recent feature on Spotify’s ‘New Music Friday’ and playlisting in Zara stores globally, FØNX is undoubtedly one to watch in 2019.
I’ve had the pleasure of being IG friends with FØNX for a while now and he truly is a lovely person with a huge career ahead of him. I can’t wait to see it all unfold. If you’d like to check out a little interview I did with him recently, click HERE.
“FØNX’s work nestles between the margins of R&B and pop, hip-hop and electro, all while treading its own path.” – Clash Magazine
