They team up with reluctant ally CIA agent Everett K. Ross (Martin Freeman) to help T’Challa defend Wakanda against the forces threatening to destroy it.

The extraordinary ensemble cast of “Black Panther” also includes veteran actors such as Academy Award® nominee Angela Bassett as Ramonda, T’Challa and Shuri’s mother; Academy Award® winner Forest Whitaker as Zuri, the spiritual leader of Wakanda; and Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue, an illegal arms dealer; and standout performances by Academy Award® nominee Daniel Kaluuya as W’Kabi, Royal Counsel to T’Challa; Winston Duke as M’Baku, the formidable leader of the Jabari tribe; and Emmy® Award-winner Sterling K. Brown as N’Jobu, a Wakandan War Dog.

The action in “Black Panther” is intensified through a musical score by GRAMMY®-nominated composer Ludwig Göransson and soundtrack curated and produced by GRAMMY® Award-winning global superstar Kendrick Lamar and Billboard Magazine’s Executive of the Year Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith.

“Black Panther: The Album” topped the Billboard 200 chart for five consecutive weeks and the end-credit track, “All The Stars,” featuring Lamar and SZA, spent nine weeks in the top 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

Patrick Schwarzenegger Talks About the Emotional Journey of Being in MIDNIGHT SUN

maxresdefault

Written by Jesus Figueroa

An emotionally charged “Midnight Sun” takes on the serious topic of being in a relationship with someone with a terminal illness in a respectful manner which doesn’t engulf the entire story.

Patrick Schwarzenegger is entrusted to play Charlie, the love interest who unknowingly falls for the terminally ill Katie, played by Bella Thorne.

The emotional task Schwarzenegger takes on was massive and due to the shooting schedule became much more challenging than what the script called for.

“Unfortunately for this movie its in Vancouver and you never know when you will get sunshine, so we had a sunny day on the second day, so we filmed the whole end on the second day,” Schwarzenegger said. “All the boat scenes, the car scenes, all the stuff was filmed the second day, so that was tough.”

Finding out the end to a story driven by emotion and leading to the emotional climax which ties the entire story together which couldn’t have happened if not for the trust Schwarzenegger had for Thorne and the way they worked together to best come to the the right emotions needed for each scene.

The work between the two main stars helped to make a connection, to push each other to a new level of acting which worked for the emotions they each needed to convey.

Building a trust with director Scott Speer also made for an easier time getting into the mindset for the emotions as shooting went along, Schwarzenegger said. Allowing the director to dig into life experiences made it easier to get to the emotional state needed.

“I love a romance, a love story and obviously this isn’t your ordinary love story,” Schwarzenegger said. “It deals with a character, which is portrayed by Bella Thorne, that has a real rare genetic disease called XP, in which even the smallest amount of sunlight can be proven deadly.”

Schwarzenegger was thrilled to be the character to pull Katie out of her world and help her feel like a normal person.

Although there is precautions that Katie takes to not be in the sun while keeping a semi-normal relationship with Charlie, the movie doesn’t treat Katie’s disease as a crutch to make the audience feel pity and treats Katie and the relationship with dignity.

DOLORES, Acclaimed Portrait of Activist Icon Dolores Huerta, Premieres on Independent Lens March 27 on PBS

image 2

Online Streaming Begins March 28

One of the most important, yet least known activists of our time, Dolores Huerta was an equal partner in founding the first farm workers union with César Chávez.

Tirelessly leading the fight for racial and labor justice, Huerta evolved into one of the most defiant feminists of the 20th century — and she continues the fight to this day, at 87.

Directed by Peter Bratt, and produced by Bratt and Brian Benson, “Dolores” premieres on Independent Lens March 27 at 9:00-11:00 p.m. ET (check local listings) on PBS.

With unprecedented access to this intensely private mother of 11, “Dolores” chronicles Huerta’s life from her childhood in Stockton to her early years with the United Farm Workers, from her work with the headline-making grape boycott launched in 1965 to her role in the feminist movement of the 70s to her continued work as a fearless activist.

Featuring interviews with Gloria Steinem, Luis Valdez, Hillary Clinton, Angela Davis, her children and more, “Dolores” is an intimate and inspiring portrait of a passionate champion of the oppressed and an indomitable woman willing to accept the personal sacrifices involved in committing one’s life to social change.

“In the 1970s, the national grape boycott that Dolores Huerta helped organize played out in the small rural Minnesota farming community where I grew up — supported by our Catholic church along with tens of thousands of religious organizations across the country,” Lois Vossen, Independent Lens executive producer, said. “More than 40 years later, Dolores is still an indefatigable architect for social change on behalf of poor, underrepresented people, urging them to seek self-determination with her refrain ‘Si Se Puede’ (‘Yes We Can’).”

Visit the “Dolores” page on Independent Lens, which features more information about the film. The film will be available for online viewing on the site beginning February 27.

About Dolores Huerta
Dolores Clara Fernández was born on April 10, 1930, in Dawson, a small mining town in New Mexico; she spent most of her childhood and early adult life in Stockton, California, where she and her two brothers moved with their mother following their parents’ divorce. Independent and entrepreneurial, her mother was an active participant in community affairs.

After graduating from high school, Dolores earned a teaching degree, married and had two daughters. Seeing her students come to school with empty stomachs and bare feet inspired her lifelong commitment to correcting economic injustice. She found her calling as an organizer while serving in the leadership of the Stockton Community Service Organization (CSO). During this time, she founded the Agricultural Workers Association, set up voter registration drives and pressed local governments for barrio improvements.

Forgiven Films, a Division of GVN Releasing, Acquires Its First Film, The Latin Dance-Themed Drama SHINE

Forgiven Films, a Division of GVN Releasing, Acquires Its First Film, The Latin Dance-Themed Drama SHINE
Set to the Soundtracks of Salsa’s Golden Era and Today’s hottest Urban Latino Acts, Anthony Nardolillo’s directorial debut was Kickstarter’s highest-funded Latino narrative film

Forgiven Films, the newly-launched division of GVN Releasing, has acquired the North American rights to Anthony Nardolillo’s “SHINE,” which he directed and independently produced via 13 Paces with producer Sandra Varona and in partnership with Sugar Studios LA and The Exchange.

The drama, starring David Zayas (“Dexter,” “Blue Bloods”), Alysia Reiner (“OITNB”) and world-renowned dancers Gilbert Saldivar (Mexican-American actor and choreographer Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, Madonna) and Jorge “Ataca” Burgos (internationally acclaimed Bachata instructor making his acting debut), will open in theaters nationwide in the third quarter of 2018.

“SHINE” is the story of two brothers, once celebrated Salsa dancers, who are reunited years after the death of their father, on opposing ends of a city in full bloom gentrification.

Set in New York City with a cast that includes a legion of renowned Latin and Pop music dancers, the film reminds audiences about the power of community.

“’SHINE’ is a timely narrative framed by Latin entertainment at its best,” Geno Taylor at GVN Releasing said. “Its multi-platform marketability is the result of a passionate team of creators with a culturally unifying message and we are proud to bring the film to audiences.”

Forgiven Films will look to expand upon GVN’s distribution model to focus on wide market appeal movies with unique voices for underserved audiences, while GVN will continue to release faith-based and family titles.

Steven Belmont, President of Forgiven Films, said, “SHINE is a passionate, vibrant and very timely film. It is the perfect film to launch Forgiven Films, where we will aim to share unique voices and stories and provide quality entertainment to underserved audiences.”

Filmmaker Anthony Nardolillo said, “’SHINE’ is not just a dance film. It speaks to our times both culturally and politically. Forgiven Films and GVN have given us the platform to bring our movie to an audience anxious to see themselves and their lives portrayed on screen, thus opening the doors to future projects for 13 Paces and other U.S. Latino filmmakers. Latin dancing continues to build in popularity each year and is currently featured on several top-rated television shows. The message of taking pride in one’s community and heritage couldn’t be more urgent and timely. ‘SHINE’ fuses these elements with a fire and excitement set to a dynamic soundtrack of Latin music all-stars combined with a powerful storyline. This film is told in our own voice, with a raw, multi-talented, and diverse cast of performers that Hollywood films have not shared enough of, until now.”

“In 2017 Latin music and dance globally dominated record sales, streams and headlines in unprecedented numbers. There is no better time than now for a film like this,”Brian O’Shea, of The Exchange, said. “We are excited to be working with Forgiven Films on their first feature. Their passion is palpable and the theatrical commitment the US release can have a very positive effect on SHINE’s international value.”

The deal was negotiated by Steven Belmont for GVN Releasing/Forgiven Films and Brian O’Shea from The Exchange on behalf of the filmmakers.

Set in a Puerto Rican neighborhood of New York City, where most of the actors hail from, SHINE debuted on the festival circuit two days after Hurricane Maria made landfall on Puerto Rico and a few weeks after Hurricane Harvey ravaged Houston, the hometown of Mexican-American co-star, Gilbert Saldivar.

The film was crowned with the Audience Award for “Best Feature” at the HBO-sponsored and Ava DuVernay-supported 2017 Urbanworld Film Festival in September and the screening sold out in 48 hours, which was the fastest in festival history.

In October 2017, a private Beverly Hills benefit screening of “SHINE” was held in support of the cast and longtime friend and tour dancer Gilbert Saldivar who was raising funds for hurricane relief efforts with the non-profit organization Voices for Puerto Rico.
Other celebrities such as Christina Aguilera were also in attendance to support the cause.Passionate and vibrant, “SHINE” transmits the pulse of the barrio with scores from the golden era of Salsa, by way of a partnership with Fania Records and hits by Sony Music Latin titans Marc Anthony and Romeo Santos, to New York hip-hop flavor by the late GRAMMY Award- winning Puerto Rican rapper, Big Pun and rap-producer duo, The Beat Nuts.

@Thisfunktional Talks With Greg Powell THE HITMAN’S BODYGUARD

@Thisfunktional Talks With Greg Powell THE HITMAN’S BODYGUARD

Written by Jesus Figueroa (@Thisfunktional)

Stunt coordinator Greg Powell looked forward to action packed “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” because it was set to have no CGI fights.

Having a script which was full of action is what a stunt coordinator looks for and having everything set in practical stunt work makes it even better.

“The reason I liked this script particularly, it was all live action. There was no CG fights,” Powell said. “It was all live action, which I love. These days there’s so much CGI it’s sort of taken over the whole film screen.”

The script may not have gone through many changes, but there was a change in director that changed the way the movie was shot, but not the content of the movie.

Working on so many stunts which varied and the different people involved in the stunts took some time.

“It went on for quite awhile, because we changed directors literally weeks before we started. There were some major changes,” Powell said. “The stunts and everything, we always going to do that stuff, nothing was ever taken out, it was just shot in a different way.”

Working with an experienced cast like Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson, whom have experience makes Powell’s work easier.

Having people who enjoy what they do made Powell excited, especially since the cast brought skills which helped make creating the stunts more fun.

“Ryan (Reynolds) is very good because he actually rides a bike, he can fight, it makes it an awful lot easier, especially when they are enjoying the film,” Powell said. “It does help people like me when we are rehearsing and have to get their input and how they see it because we can get right into it, get their style and what they are thinking.”

Even with an experienced cast, the time needed to ensure safety which is Powell’s first concern takes time.

Practicing is an essential part of of the process and Powell was happy to get an opportunity to rehearse.
