@Thisfunktional Talks With Manuel Garcia-Rulfo MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS

@Thisfunktional Talks With Manuel Garcia-Rulfo MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS

Written by Jesus Figueroa (@Thisfunktional)

Actor Manuel Garcia-Rulfo has had an amazing career with projects like “MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS,” out in theaters now, which has included him with magnificent casts.

The character of Biniamino Marquez in “MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS” brings Rulfo to a cast of 12 magnificent actors which entertain in a classic story by Agatha Christie.

“I really had alot of fun playing this character, because it’s so different from what I’ve done before or very different from who Manuel is,” Rulfo said. “I’m a very reserved, shy man and this character is very much an open book.”

Although having been on several movie sets, been part of great movies and played some great roles, Rulfo still finds he learns so much from his co-stars.

The challenges that come with getting into the mindset of each role brings different challenges for actors to each movie, which Rulfo said he found to be part of the fun of this character.

Along with the challenge of a new role, Rulfo said the experience of this movie helped him appreciate working with a veteran cast.

“I’m very proud and blessed and lucky,” Rulfo said. “Having the opportunity to work with all these amazing people, in magnificent seven with all the actors and the magnitude of such a film and now this film. Then La Vida Inmoral with a wonderful friend of mine, Manolo Caro, and all the actors in it. I like those projects that you benefit, not only from the outcome, but from everything like the people you work with and that you learn from the people you work with — directors and actors — I’ve been lucky from that.”

Rulfo was thrilled when he heard the actors he would be working with. He looked forward to work with actors who he knew from their work.

“All these people, I’ve admired and followed their careers so much and I respect them,” Rulfo said. “To share scenes with them, it’s like a pinch moment. Every time I was there, on the train, I would look around and think ‘What the fuck am I doing here?’ They are such professionals and they have this amazing human quality.”

There’s not many opportunities to bring to life a classic tale which is widely known, or that an actor gets to put a spin on a classic character.

Rulfo said, “The opportunity of bringing a classic like this one of Agatha Christie to the big screen, that’s what made me say of course I’m in.”

World Series Viewers Were Treated To A Special Look At STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI

Written by Jesus Figueroa

Dodger and Astro fans were anxiously watching Game 7 of the World Series as a special “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” aired.

In Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” the Skywalker saga continues as the heroes of The Force Awakens join the galactic legends in an epic adventure that unlocks age-old mysteries of the Force and shocking revelations of the past.

The film stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Kelly Marie Tran, Laura Dern and Benicio Del Toro.

“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman. J.J. Abrams, Tom Karnowski and Jason McGatlin are the executive producers.

The dark trailer shows some much anticipated scenes, such as more lightsabers and flight battles.

As this spot is called “Awake,” it was expected to see some Force powers awaken and still there’s more questions brought up from the way the trailer leans to a dark training by Luke Skywalker.

Where does this trailer want the fans to think the story is going?

Will this cut of the trailer be the most accurate to the mood of the new film?

New Spanish Streaming App PANTAYA Launches With Support From Omar Chaparro, Maite Perroni

Written by Jesus Figueroa (@Thisfunktional)

Latin American stars Omar Chaparro and Maite Perroni are proud to be the ambassadors for the Spanish-language streaming app Pantaya.

The Pantaya app will bring the major productions from not only the cinema from Mexico, but also from Spanish-speaking countries.

Along with cinema from Spanish-speaking countries, major motion pictures will be dubbed and subtitled for viewers to enjoy.

For Latin viewers who are more comfortable with the English-language subtitles from Spanish movies will also be available.

Aside from the major productions, many of the movies that have not had a United States release will have a platform for viewers to have access to them.

Chaparro said that users of the app will be able to keep up with movies from all Spanish speaking countries as well as rewatch the classic movies.

The app is able to search for movies by genre, country, language, decade and even actors.

The user interface is easy to navigate and contain a section which contains a history of movies watched as well as suggestions for movies the user may enjoy.

Perroni said that the entire family can gather around to watch movies off the app regardless of age or how well they understand English or Spanish. The movies are also released across all regions at once, so families in different countries can be watching the same content and talking to each other about what they have been watching.

As Hollywood struggles to be inclusive an app like PantaYa brings people together in a new way.

Content that wasn’t available in the United States before now has a platform to be seen. Actors who have remained unknown in Hollywood mainstream can now be seen by a new audience.

PantaYa is available now with a 7-day free trial and a monthly cost of $5.99 per month.

Available at Pantaya.com.

THE FOREIGNER Introduces The U.S. To Jackie Chan’s Serious Acting Talent

Written by Jesus Figueroa

For years Jackie Chan has been entertaining U.S. audiences with comical action movies, but “The Foreigner” show cases a more serious side to the action star.

Chan has been doing serious action movies overseas, but had never had the opportunity to bring his acting talents to more than comedy action movies in the U.S.

“The Foreigner” is a dark gritty story of a man seeking out vengeance when his daughter is killed in a terrorist attack.

“In Asia, I already found it very tough to slowly change, but for the past 20 years my friends in Asia have accepted that ‘Wow, Jackie (Chan) is an actor, not just an action star,'” Chan said. “From Hollywood, I get scripts for police from Hong Kong or police from China, secret police from hong kong, secret police from china, I don’t get so many roles from Hollywood.”

No different roles were offered to Chan until “The Foreigner,” his fans outside of Asia had not been able to see anything other than the action star.

Through this dark story, the dramatic side of Chan is showcased in a story which has him show an emotional and vulnerable side.

Screenplay writer David Marconi said it wasn’t intentional that Quan Ngoc Minh, played by Chan, comes off as almost a villain in the first part of the movie because it wasn’t what was in the original book “The Chinaman” written by Stephen Leather.

“Originally for me, it was a man who…Is caught up in a tragedy,” Marconi said. “We have so many tragedies around us, look at Las Vegas, you can just go on and on and on.”

“The Foreigner” tells the story of a grieving father who has nothing to live for, Marconi said. This gives Quan no other option than to go after the people who took everything away from him.

Although he character goes to extremes, Chan hopes that people remember that this is fiction that is based on some sort of reality, but not completely grounded in reality.

As a filmmaker, Chan hopes his films send some message to the viewers – peace, respect, unity among other themes – and causes thoughts and discussions.

“Right now, there are terrorist attacks every single day around the world,” Chan said. “I always said that natural disasters – tornados and tsunamis – happen every single day. Why do humans create human disasters? I choose this movie because I hope we can stop these kinds of things.”

Chan hopes that the loss of innocent lives can stop, that through “The Foreigner” can help start the discussion to find a solution to the senseless loss of innocent lives.

Actor Dave Belvederi Finds His Road

Actor Dave Belvederi Finds His Road

Written by Jesus Figueroa (@Thisfunktional)

Professionally trained actor Dave Belvederi has not strayed away from traveling to be an actor.

Born in Italy, acting has taken him from Europe and found him a place in Los Angeles with numerous skills to bring to his trade.

“I’ve always travelled since I was a little kid, so I was never scared of traveling,” Belvederi said. “Traveling on your own is way better. It gives you more freedom. You get to see alot of different cultures, different ethnicities, so, it kind of widens your mind.”

Along with his travels, the skills he picked up while training as an actor have brought him a better understanding and more to bring to each of the his roles.

While in New York in his first year of college he picked up stonework as an interest due to his background in mixed martial arts.

Starting with boxing and progressing to kickboxing and eventually more close-quarter combat.

“I started training with Ray Rodriguez, he was a stunt coordinator back then,” Belvederi said.

Rodriguez would encourage him to consider stunt work because of the many years of martial arts.

Due to stunt acting, Belvederi was able to keep up his physique so he could be versatile and pursue action roles which would require his training.

“The cinema here (in Hollywood) is more spectacular. There’s more of an action style, bigger,” Belvederi said. “Acting in Europe is very traditional.”

Coming from Europe, Belvederi never thought he would be able to do both stunt work and acting. Being in Hollywood now he has been able to take advantage and use the traditional training with his stunt training.

With two projects coming up Belvederi looks to showcase more of what he is capable of and expand his acting range even further.

“Bloody Eyes” has Belverderi playing a detective, which he wasn’t use to because he was usually placed in the role of a villain.

As well as “Rogue Hunter,” now in post-production, where Belvederi play mercenary Alex Phoenix.

“It was a very demanding role because it had alot of stunts too,” Belvederi said.

Belvederi rehearsed the action sequences two weeks prior to starting shooting. Which gave him the versatility to adapt to changes once shooting took place.

Roles come to Belvederi and he said he is willing to take on a variety of roles because as long as it is challenging it will keep him honing his skills.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES Stunt Coordinator Tommy Harper Made Large, Safe Stunts

Written by Jesus Figueroa

“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” had scenes that were bigger and more elaborate than any other movie in the franchise.

Veteran stunt coordinator Tommy Harper worked to create stunts which fit the newest story in the pirates franchise and were still adequate and safe for the cast.

Harper said, each stunt needed to be big, because the franchise merits it, but safety is always the first concern.

The action in “Dead Men Tell No Tales” moves across large terrain and multiple characters are involved, which is sure to make for larger than life scenes.

From a returning cast to new members to the franchise, there were skill levels that varied as well as stables he’d characters that needed to continue on in a way which matched previous movies.

Harper said, he has worked with Johnny Depp before, and with Depp knowing his character well after all the previous movies, the collaborative process was fun and they were able to push the limits of his character.

From fights scenes in a moving structure to parting the sea and having a battle in space that’s changing, the challenges to bring everything together takes skills in many aspects.

The world of “Pirates of the Caribbean” takes the characters on adventures from land to boats, from towns to the beach and each location requires different skill sets.

Having different skill sets is essential. Being a master of one thing can be great, but training in many different things and having multiple skills helps to the adapting atmosphere which can come up in projects such as “Dead Men Tell No Tales,” Harper said.

With a wonderful cast which includes Depp, Javier Bardem and Kaya Scodelario, the talent Harper had to work with was spectacular.

Harper had worked on several huge projects before and was thrilled to have the opportunity to be part of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” and help make the story as exciting as it could possibly get.

A great story helps make the grand stunts memorable and Harper brilliantly helped make beautiful stunts for some marvelous actors.

With so many re-makes trying to mimic or pull away so much that it’s no longer true to the original, “IT” comes out with a brand new re-imagining with all the right scares.

Staying true to the iconic moments and including some lighthearted humor makes this telling of “IT” creepy and relatable.

Being fortunate to have the film premiere 27 years after the made-for-tv series with Tim Curry as the menacing Pennywise the Dancing Clown and following a worldwide resurgence of menacing clowns, which were not promo gimmicks for the movie, “IT” comes to the big screen in a unique manner with its own distinct take on the menacing clown.

Producers David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame Smith said that the timing of release and the scary clowns are all coincidence and just worked out to the movie’s benefit.

As fans of Stephen King, they were thrilled with his reaction to the movie, it was almost like a stamp of approval for them and whatever happened from that point on, they could deal with knowing King enjoyed the movie.

Director Andy Muschietti said that the King novel was one of his favorite and when he got on the project he began to work on his design of what Pennywise should look like. He has many hand drawn designs which he had in mind, but when Bill Skarsgard was cast he brought more to the part and the character evolved to what is in the movie.

Pennywise actor Skarsgard said that he felt the pressure to be a great Pennywise, but with little description of the character he needed to trust Muschietti’s vision and direction and the two were able to collaborate to make the character standout from how Curry’s Pennywise did.

A rated R horror movie with a cast of young actors can be tough to make, but with a story which treats every theme serious the cast was able to do justice to King’s characters and story.

Screenplay writer Gary Dauberman manages to keep a good pace to the movie and mix light humor, drama and suspense magnificently to keep the story flowing and continuously moving forward.

Dauberman said that King’s novel is masterfully written with everything in it already, writing the screenplay and making it mix well wasn’t as difficult, but the young actors played off each other magnificently and with the direction from Muschietti the movie gained its great timing.

Fans of the original made-for-tv series may see some familiar scenes, which are iconic even for the book, but they are great scenes to watch.

The scares come frequently and so does the humor of the movie.

The brilliant performances from the young cast cements the spectacular movie as more than just a remake. The ability to take on strong themes and be courageous in their performances as well as the kid nature that they bring is a must watch.

The darkened theater, audience reactions and cold chill of the theater make for a great ambience to watch “IT.”
