Movie Review by Kristin: A STAR IS BORN | Starring Bradley Cooper & Lady Gaga

Happy Saturday, movie lovers!

I just got back from an early morning showing of A STAR IS BORN and I am absolutely blown away. It was even better than I expected and seeing it in Dolby (thanks, AMC) made it even more incredible.

In case you were unaware of the plot:

SYNOPSIS: A musician helps a young singer and actress find fame, even as age and alcoholism send his own career into a downward spiral.

Let me start by saying that I listened to the soundtrack for A STAR IS BORN yesterday while I was at work and was pleasantly surprised by the vocals on Bradley Cooper! The music itself was fantastic, but his vocals really proved how versatile and talented he truly is. The tracks with him and Lady Gaga made me want a full album of just them singing with each other. It was really that good! With that being said, here is my warning for those of you that decide to listen to the soundtrack before watching the movie:

YOU WILL KNOW THE ENDING.

Between each track is a dialogue track pulled straight from the movie. As I was listening to each track, I could almost feel the tone of their relationship changing. Once it got to the last three tracks, I called my co-worker and asked if the soundtrack just ruined the ending of the movie for me lol. Update: It did. However, with that being said, nothing could prepare you for the incredible performances given by Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga in this movie.

Consider the fact that this was her first (major) acting role and this was his first time actually singing and “becoming” a musician. They were both kind of walking in the other’s shoes and did so perfectly. I’m convinced that Bradley Cooper, not only as an actor/performer, but as a filmmaker is an absolute genius. This was his directorial debut and he nailed it, in my opinion. The shots were beautiful & there were moments where there was no dialogue, but you knew exactly what they were saying just by looking at each other. The trust between him and Lady Gaga as actors was evident throughout the whole thing. You felt what the characters were feeling. You were invested in their relationship and you rooted for them to succeed. Even the performances by the supporting cast was great. Ally’s friend Ramon (Anthony Ramos) didn’t get much air time, but played a pivotal role in her life and the relationship with Jack. Bobby (Sam Elliott) was great as Jack’s brother and really played a part in breaking my heart throughout the movie.

I love movies and I love music, so any time that they can be combined into one incredible piece of art — I’m there for it. There was no exception here and I am highly recommending it to anyone reading this review. It’s gritty, it’s important, it’s beautiful, it’s tragic. Bradley Cooper allowed the movie to breathe without us feeling like they were shoving dialogue and a fake story down our throats. It felt real and I might need convincing that there isn’t an actual Jack Maine & Ally out there on tour together right now lol. Side Note: Can Sam Elliott lend his voice to a meditating app or something? Let’s make that happen, people!

The only “complaint” I can muster is that there are a few scenes in the trailer (see below) that don’t appear in the movie and I wish they had, but here’s to hoping for an extended version once it’s released on Blu-ray.

So go out and see it now that it’s in theaters! Let me know your thoughts when you do. Do you think this will be Oscar-nominated? I actually think it could be and it honestly couldn’t be more deserving. Great job by all!

Lucky Brand Launches Queen Capsule Collection in Celebration of Twentieth Century Fox Film’s new movie, Bohemian Rhapsody

Lucky Brand announces their collaboration with Twentieth Century Fox Film and Bravado with a collection of seven vintage-inspired men’s and women’s Queen concert tees to celebrate the release of the new film, Bohemian Rhapsody, in theaters November 2^nd.

The capsule, which launches on October 4^th, will include four different Queen graphics for women on t-shirts including one long sleeve, crewneck sweatshirt. Men’s options will feature an additional three Queen graphics, one featuring Queen frontman and basis of the film, Freddie Mercury. Ranging from $39.50 to $79.50, the collection will be carried at select department stores including Macy’s, Dillard’s, Lord & Taylor and others, including specialty boutiques and online retailers such as Amazon and Zappos. The capsule will also be available at 156 Lucky Brand retail stores in the U.S. and Canada, as well as LuckyBrand.com.

In support of the movie release, Lucky Brand is partnering with Bohemian Rhapsody and Queen on store window takeovers across 135 retail doors. In six top door locations, Lucky Brand windows will display iconic costume replicas as seen in the film. The costumes will be featured in an online silent auction, with all proceeds going to our charity partner Communities in Schools. Def Jam Recordings has released a new music video for Arlissa’s “We Won’t Move,” the theme song to 20th Century Fox’s forthcoming feature film THE HATE U GIVE. The film opens in select theaters today, October 5, and is directed by George Tillman, Jr. and based on the New York Times bestseller by Angie Thomas. “SHINE” is a NY-set Salsa dance movie which tells the story of two Puerto Rican brothers, Ralphi Matas (Jorge Burgos) and Junior (Gilbert Saldivar), from New York’s Spanish Harlem and the street’s best Salsa dancers, are separated after a tragedy only to reunite years later on opposing sides of gentrification.

WATCH: Adonis Creed Trains To Fight Viktor Drago In New ‘CREED II’ Trailer

AHHHHHH!!!

The new trailer for CREED II was released today and it looks incredible! I love Michael B. Jordan as an actor and who doesn’t love the OG, Sylvester Stallone?? I mean, right?? I was a huge fan of CREED, and the follow-up film looks to be just as captivating. Add some DMX music to the mix and you have a recipe for a highly anticipated movie!

Check out a brand-new trailer for “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” introducing new characters, including the fierce and fun crew of racers from online racing game Slaughter Race. In “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” video-game bad guy Ralph (voice of John C. Silencio highlights a mysterious area in Mexico known as the Zone of Silence that has true events of the eerie. Located on the same parallel line of the Bermuda Triangle and the Pyramids of Giza, it has several events of the unexplainable including rocket crashes, mutations in plants and animals, meteorite strikes and much more.

Silencio shares the story of Ana, (Melina Matthews) who struggles to save her son’s life. She must find a powerful stone her grandfather (John Noble) originally discovered with his apprentice (Rupert Graves) in the Zone of Silence in 1970. Throughout her desperate search, Ana stumbles upon long lost family secrets and discovers enemies who believe the stone’s power is worth killing for.

Written, directed and produced by Lorena Villarreal, Denisse Chapa (producer) and filmed in Zone of Silence and northern Mexico locations, the film brings to life the local tales of strange occurrences that have been happening for decades.

In the movie, video-game bad guy Ralph struggles with his evolving friendship with fellow misfit Vanellope von Schweetz. According to Imagine Dragons’ lead singer Dan Reynolds, the film’s emotional themes are reflected in the song “Zero.” “It’s a pretty timely movie in a lot of ways in that it addresses some of the issues of identity and loneliness unique to this internet generation,” says Reynolds. “Ralph’s internal struggle for self-acceptance really resonated with us, and this song speaks to that.”

Adds Moore, “It’s a bold choice for an end-credit song because it’s about someone who feels like a zero, someone who hasn’t always felt worthy, someone who’s allowed his entire sense of self to rely on a single friendship. When that friendship is threatened, there’s a lot of insecurity.”

“We can all relate to that feeling,” adds Johnston. “But the song tells us we’re not alone. They nailed the theme of the movie in a way that also makes you want to dance.”

Says Reynolds, “The song is a dichotomy in some ways, with sometimes heavy lyrics over pretty upbeat instrumentation. The result is a tone that is somewhat bittersweet, which felt appropriate given the complexity of Ralph as a character.”

Actor Boyd Holbrook takes on THE PREDATOR

“The Predator” is now in theaters, actor Boyd Holbrook was honored to be part of the film and found that working with director Shane Black to be a different experience.

Although Holbrook said he enjoys doing action films, he really gets going when he is able to do character work and dive into a role with niche unique stories.

Being part of a cast that continues a fan favorite franchise like that of the Predator franchise brought Holbrook a great opportunity to live a dream of his.

Holbrook said the character of McKenna gave him an opportunity to play a Harrison Ford or Clint Eastwood type character, which he has been a fan of.

McKenna is a character which starts off as a lone wolf and gets thrown into a dysfunctional group of heroes that are the underdogs, which when put up against the predators any human warrior would be an underdog.

With the unpredictability of director Shane Black, Holbrook said it was a fun experience to be part of the amazing group of heroes, nicknamed The Loonies, of “The Predator.”

The Loonies was a strange group of soldiers that are under psychological treatment which brought comical moments.

Holbrook said that it was hard to keep a straight face with this group because they were all very funny and it was fun to be around the group while on set.

The group quickly go from being strangers who happen to be put together on a bus as they are being transported to a group of soldiers who are on a mission and Holbrook said that they all collaborated well and they were all very well cast.

The film had scenes, such as McKenna’s return home, which were highly improvised and written on the spot keeping the film being a cooperative process.

Holbrook said that if there is a sequel he would enjoy coming back and being the main warrior again, which with the ending of “The Predator” the audience knows exactly in what role he would want his character to take.

Actor David Zayas find “Shine” gives an authentic view of New York while it puts the culture of the streets of New York prominently against the destruction gentrification brings.

With “Shine” coming to theaters October 5, Zayas finds that the music and story drive a message of balancing tradition and culture with modernization and improvement.

As an actor with a long list of film and TV credits, Zayas saw that “Shine” was well written by Anthony Nardolillo and an exciting story.

Zayas thought that the story resonated with him because it brought back memories of growing up in New York and how proud the Hispanics of New York are of their culture. Some of the scenes of the movie were filmed in neighborhoods that he grew up in.

“Shine” gave Zayas the opportunity to step away from darker roles he has played, and is known for, to take on a role which has heart and which he said he was honored to get to play.

The film co-stars Gilbert Saldivar and Jorge Burgos. Zayas said that the two actors were respectful and worked hard to give the best performance they possibly could.

It’s a comedic take on the absurdity of trying to get a movie made these days, especially for women and a director known for working with women.

SYNOPSIS: A Simple Favor, a stylish post-modern suburban noir directed by Paul Feig, centers around Stephanie Smothers (Anna Kendrick), a mommy vlogger who seeks to uncover the truth behind her best friend Emily Nelson’s (Blake Lively) sudden disappearance from their small town. Stephanie is joined by Emily’s husband Sean (Henry Golding) in this stylish thriller filled with twists and betrayals, secrets and revelations, love and loyalty, murder and revenge.

A SIMPLE FAVOR opens in theaters this Friday, September 14^th.
