NIALL HORAN: Flicker Sessions Tour 2017 – Miami (Review)

IMG_0938

Hey there, music lovers!

This review will be a bit different because my niece was actually the one who attended. I wanted to have her explain the experience in her own words because she’s the target demographic (even though I really enjoyed this album myself). This tour, Flicker Sessions, is promoting the debut solo album from Niall Horan (1/4 of One Direction).

I can tell you that the doors to the venue (The Fillmore Miami Beach)  opened about an hour before the show started, which was about 7pm. The scheduled start time was 8pm and my niece was out at 10:15pm.

Also, be sure to take advantage of the Flicker Sessions filters available on SnapChat while you’re waiting! Here are the two that were available for my niece here in Miami:

Here’s Briana with her thoughts on the show:

I was nervous to see Niall perform by himself because I’m so used to seeing him with the other guys in 1D, but I am so proud of him! Proud mom! The stage didn’t have a big, elaborate set-up and I really liked that. It had a chill vibe that went well with his new music. The sound was great at the venue and Niall’s vocals were on point throughout the whole show (I’m not surprised!). One of my favorite parts was when he stopped singing and playing the guitar and let the audience sing the words back to him. He just looked so happy to be doing this. We almost cried when he started singing “Fool’s Gold” too! It was so emotional.

IMG_0946This was my first time at The Fillmore, but I really liked it. I even heard that the line for Niall’s show was longer than any other show there. I’m not sure how accurate that is, but either way, it was way worth the two hours we spent in line! Some people even started lining up at 5am! We weren’t as close to the stage as we hoped, but just being there at all was such a great experience. While we were in line, someone passed around these bright pink papers shaped like light bulbs that said to hold them in front of our phone flashlights during “This Town” and that was awesome to see. I’ve seen people plan fan projects like that at other shows, but this was the first one I got to participate in.

Gavin James opened up for Niall and he reminded me a lot of Ed Sheeran. I thought he did really well. I highly recommend getting tickets to see Niall live because it really was a great night out!

IMG_0937Multi-platinum artists AWOLNATION have announced the release of their third studio album, Here Come The Runts, on February 2, 2018. Fans can preorder the album starting now at awolnationmusic.com and receive instant downloads of ‘Seven Sticks of Dynamite,’ and current single ‘Passion,’ which was the #1 most added at US Alternative Radio and currently #19 on the Alt Radio charts. In the meantime fans can stream ‘Seven Sticks of Dynamite’ here.

Serving as a follow up to the platinum-certified debut album Megalithic Symphony, and 2015’s Run, which included US No. 1 hit ‘Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)’ as well as Top 5 tracks ‘I Am’ and ‘Woman Woman,’ AWOLNATION’s third undertaking sees Aaron Bruno once again at the helm producing, writing and recording. “With this record I really wanted to make a rock n’ roll/pop album.” says Bruno. “And I say ‘pop’ how I grew up listening to it, in the sense of Dire Straits or Born In The U.S.A or The Cars or Tom Petty.”

Bruno spent 2016 crafting the album in his home studio nestled in the coastal mountain range separating the Pacific Ocean and the suburbs of Los Angeles where he grew up. The secluded location is reflected throughout the album. “The record definitely has a feel to it that seems parallel to the vibe of this mountain and the land,” Bruno notes. “It’s like a non-GMO record. There’s no fake shit on there, none of the vocals are tuned. It’s all real playing.”

In support of Here Come The Runts, AWOLNATION will be embarking on a North American headlining tour with support from Nothing But Thieves on February 11th in Toronto. They will then be crossing the pond for a European/UK run throughout the month of April. A full list of European dates can be found below. Tickets go on sale on Friday.

TIM MCGRAW & FAITH HILL: Soul2Soul World Tour 2017 (Review)

IMG_0712

Hey there music lovers!! I’m back with another live show review! Yesterday afternoon, my niece’s mom sent me a text asking if I was a fan of country music. Now, admittedly, I love all kinds of music, but country isn’t my top choice. However, I love me some Faith Hill and Tim McGraw! When I heard she had tickets to their show last night in Sunrise, FL, I had to say YESSSSSSSS!

I invited my cowboy-boot-wearing, country-music-loving friend and we drove out in the rain to catch the show. This might’ve been the first time in my life that I went to a show where I didn’t know every song being played, but it didn’t even matter!

The show opened up with Locash, who I, personally, had never heard of before, but they sounded great. They did a fantastic job at hyping up the crowd before Faith & Tim came out, which is always a solid accomplishment for an opening act. I’m always open to new music, so I’ll definitely be checking them out now after seeing them perform live.

One thing I want to note about the show was that the visual effects and staging were SO good. I even want to say the whole set up was one of the best I’ve ever seen–and I’ve been to A LOT of live shows! There were hi-def lasers, floating lights, moving see-through banners and hi-def visuals on the huge screen on stage. I don’t think there could have been one bad seat in the house because most of the performances were put up on the screen like this:

IMG_0677

The vocals throughout the entire show were well worth the soggy shoes I was wearing for almost four hours (did I mention it was raining?). The two swapped off between singing duets and doing their own solo music, and everything really flowed nicely. The one thing I admire about these two is how they’ve been married for 21 years, they have three beautiful daughters, yet they still look (and act) like they’re dating. The fact that they did this joint tour together is a testament to that and it was adorable! They had so much energy throughout the entire show as well, which kept the energy in the crowd on fire the whole time!

New Music Friday! | #music #newreleases #tour

YoursTruly

Good morning, music lovers!!

Ok . . . so I had to take a minute to compose myself after the influx of music releases and announcements over the past two weeks! How did you all hold up? lol . . .

So let’s talk tours first! Fans received announcements from some of their favorite artists regarding upcoming tours and, personally, I couldn’t be more excited! I’m hoping to make some contacts so I can keep up with all of them and get some show reviews posted for you all! Fingers crossed on that. Some of the artists who posted tour announcements include Fall Out Boy (dates posted below), Halsey (dates posted below), Janet Jackson, Harry Styles (dates posted below), Linkin Park, Sabrina Carpenter, Kendrick Lamar, an extension of the current Kings of Leon tour, the list goes on and on! Not to mention the fact that some of our favorite artists are currently working on new music, which means (hopefully) even more announcements are sure to be on their way!

Also announced in the past two weeks are singles, singles, and more singles! Fall Out Boy released “Young and Menace,” Imagine Dragons released “Thunder,” OneRepublic released “No Vacancy,” Harry Styles released “Sweet Creature,” Halsey released “Eyes Closed,” Paramore released “Told You So,” Niall Horan released “Slow Hands,” X Ambassadors released “Torches,” etc., etc., etc.

In light of all of these announcements, we also got a few music videos to watch! Anyone else miss when MTV and VH1 used to play music videos? Do they even do it at all anymore? Let me know! Here are a few of the new ones:

Which artists are you more excited about? Are there any tours you’re planning on attending? Are there any new artists I should be listening to? Sound off in the comments or tweet me @thisiskristin_! I also would LOVE to know who’s planning on attending ‘Kinky Boots’ on Broadway this summer to see Brendon Urie from Panic! at the Disco playing Charlie? I know I am!  🙂

THE 1975 TOUR | Review

IMG_4199

Hey music fans!!  I’m back with another tour review and I’m excited about this one!

My niece introduced me to The 1975 a while back and I really enjoyed listening to them.  For Christmas this past year, her mom and I surprised her with tickets to see them live for the first time.  She was stoked (and so was I!), but had to wait until May 11 for the show. Talk about torture!

Anyway, last night was the show and it was held at Bayfront Park Amphitheater in Downtown Miami.  I’d never been to the venue, but I’d definitely go there again!

If you’re not familiar with The 1975, here’s a bit of info about them:

Hailing from Manchester, U.K., The 1975 is an alternative rock band clearly influenced by a wide range of musical styles.  The band consists of Matt Healy (lead singer and guitarist), George Daniel (drums, backing vocals), Adam Hann (guitar, keyboards, backing vocals) and Ross MacDonald (bass, keyboard, backing vocals).  After releasing three EP’s over the course of their musical career, the band released their self-titled debut album, The 1975, in 2013 and their latest album, I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware, in 2016.

The show started at about 8 pm with Wolf Alice and The Japanese House as opening acts.  The 1975 came out and played non-stop until the very end.  Unfortunately, their drummer (George) was unable to play due to a broken shoulder, but the drummer from one of their opening acts saved the day and did a great job!  The sound at the venue was great, the crowd was energetic and the band seemed to play off of that.  One couple even got engaged during fallingforyou, which was cute.  Even the stage setup was great.  They had huge screens that lit up behind them to cover the entire stage, with their signature rectangles floating above them.  To sum it up, the show was great and I would definitely see them live again.

You can check out the setlist for the Miami show (May 11, 2016) below:

PENTATONIX: World Tour 2016 (Review)

IMG_3736
Hey there music fans!!  I wanted to take the time to talk about an amazing show I saw last night in Sunrise, FL and why it was so amazing!

We got to the BB&T Center to pick up our tickets and found out that our seats had been upgraded. Woot woot!  An up-and-coming artist named AJ opened up and was followed by Us the Duo, who were absolutely amazing!!

Pentatonix (Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola and Avi Kaplan) came out and showed the crowd why they’re putting a cappella on the map!  Their voices together are insane.  I was actually surprised to see how many loyal fans they seemed to have here in Miami because the fans down here are known to be fickle.  Every song they played was sung right back to them with such enthusiasm, it really made me happy to see.  As a former chorus nerd (& proud), I know how difficult it is to sing a cappella, so to see Pentatonix succeed at the rate they’re succeeding is definitely something to commend. They’re not just singing along to a track someone else made.  They have to lay out an intricate plan for each member to ensure the quality of sound they’re known for.  Definitely not your typical artist, and they deserve a ton of recognition for that. Each member brings something different to the table, and if you think Kevin is just a beatboxer, check him out playing the cello! Incredible!

The vocals were on point, the stage show didn’t overpower the group and the crowd was great.  The only “annoying” part about the show was the workers going around stopping people from taking pictures or videos.  On one hand I get it…you can’t truly experience the show behind your phone, but I like to have a few pictures and videos to relive the memories from the show in the future.  In any case, I managed to get a few pictures before having to put my camera away:

IMG_3726

And this picture was posted by Us the Duo on Twitter following the show.  They came out and performed “If I Ever Fall in Love” with the group and it was nothing short of amazing. Especially when Kevin hit those high notes!!

IMG_3729
It was definitely worth it to check this group out live, and I highly recommend the show for anyone who is a true fan of music and the hard work that goes into it.  This group is so incredibly talented and they really appreciate their fans. One of my favorite moments of the night was seeing how emotional they were.  Scott made a joke about having a sappy moment, but I loved it! They deserve the success they’re achieving, and I’m proud to be a fan. Check out the setlist below, and the dates for the remaining stops on the tour!
