Second Season of Cinelatino’s Original Series Based on Top Hitman of World’s Most Notorious Drug Lord

image001After a highly successful first season, the much-anticipated second season of Cinelatino’s original series, “El Desconocido: La Historia del Cholo Adrián” (“The Unknown Hitman: The Story of El Cholo Adrián”), will premiere in the U.S. on Cinelatino, the nation’s leading Spanish-language movie network on Sunday, March 17, at 11pm ET/8pm PT. Following the season two premiere, new episodes will air every Sunday at 11pm ET/8pm PT.

Inspired by true events, the first season of “El Desconocido” told the fictional story of “El Cholo” Adrián, right-hand man to the infamous drug lord, “El Chato” Guzman, who led Mexico’s most powerful drug cartel until he was captured alongside El Cholo after one of the most extensive manhunts in Mexico’s history.

The context of season two continues to be the power struggle between the army, the state and the cartels, but the story explores the sacrifices endured by those who live in the narco world and the personal damage the drug trade inflicts on organizations, families, relationships, parenthood, and friendships.

“We sought to capture the personal cost of the drug war—the inability to have a safe family life, to have genuine relationships, or to work freely as an artist or journalist,” said Carolina Bilbao, co-executive producer of the “El Desconocido” franchise. “The frailty of these vital freedoms is one of the main themes of this season and we’re confident it will strike a chord with viewers.”

“We are thrilled to bring back a second season of this series that’s captivated viewers world-wide,” said James M. McNamara, co-executive producer of the “El Desconocido” franchise. “Cinelatino is an expert at storytelling for Latin audiences and we are proud to be able to offer exclusive access to unique and top-quality original content for our viewers.”

Comprised of eight episodes, Season Two assembles an incredible collection of talent, including Guillermo Iván (Trade, Vantage Point, Sin Memoria, La Casa de los Babies), Scarlet Gruber (“Tierra de Reyes,” Passions of the Heart), Maria del Carmen Felix (Enemigo Intimo, Lady Altagracia), José Ángel Bichir (“Tiempo Final,” “Los Simuladores”), among others.

Latin Grammy award-winning Carla Morrison, singer-actress Reyna Soledad and award-winning indie band The Chamanas are among the artists featured on the Season Two soundtrack.

Directed by celebrated filmmaker Gonzalo Gonzalez, the film was written by Erick Hernández.

Season One premiered on Cinelatino in 2017 and will re-air on the network ahead of the Season Two premiere. Viewers can access more information and schedules at Cinelatino.com.

Cinelatino is available across the United States on all major cable, satellite and telco providers.
