Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

How did you all enjoy the directorial debut of our beloved Daniel Gillies?? I have to say, I love that The Vampire Diaries and The Originals have allowed some of the cast members to test their talents at directing. We’ve seen episodes directed by Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Joseph Morgan, Charles Michael Davis and now Daniel Gillies. Can’t wait to see what some of the women can do!!
In any case, I couldn’t make it on Skype today, but I sent Mike my thoughts on the episode and he held down the fort!
Check out the podcast below and let us know what you thought!
SYNOPSIS: After the devastating events of the previous episode, Klaus requests that his estranged siblings Rebekah and Kol return home to stand by their family against The Hollow. Meanwhile, Freya recruits Hayley for a dangerous journey that will put both their lives at risk — but may be the sole means of saving someone they love. Elsewhere, tensions rise when Marcel leads a hunt for The Hollow — putting him on a collision course with the person he was least prepared to face. Finally, as Kol continues to mourn the loss of Davina, he is forced to consider the lengths he’d go to see her again.
THE HERO stars the legendary Sam Elliott as an aging actor confronting mortality in the moving new film from writer/director Brett Haley (I’LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS). Lee Hayden (Elliott) is a Western icon with a golden voice, but his best performances are decades behind him. He spends his days reliving old glories and smoking too much weed with his former-co-star-turned-dealer, Jeremy (Nick Offerman), until a surprise cancer diagnosis brings his priorities into sharp focus. He soon strikes up an exciting, contentious relationship with stand-up comic Charlotte (Laura Prepon), and he attempts to reconnect with his estranged daughter, Lucy (Krysten Ritter), all while searching for one final role to cement his legacy. THE HERO is a beautiful and poignant celebration of life and the legacies we all leave behind.

I got to see Wonder Woman last night and it’s no surprise that it’s already become one of the highest rated movies put out for DC Comics!
SYNOPSIS: Before she was Wonder Woman she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained warrior. When a pilot crashes and tells of conflict in the outside world, she leaves home to fight a war to end all wars, discovering her full powers and true destiny.
In a movie world where male superheroes dominate the big screen, I think Gal Gadot’s portrayal of Wonder Womanhas put STRONG, beautiful women on the map!
There is no denying that Diana is a beautiful woman, but she’s so much more than that. She’s compassionate, she’s determined, and she’s a warrior. As I was sitting there watching this movie I thought of my 12-year-old niece and all of the other little girls who might now be able to understand that beautiful and strong can absolutely go hand in hand with one another.
Overall I thought this was a solid release for the DC Universe. There were moments here and there where I felt like they were trying to remind viewers that she was a woman by having her get overly emotional when trying to persuade people to do what she felt was right. I don’t necessarily think that needed to be laid on so thick because it only allows male viewers to say, “Um, but yeah . . . women are all like that.” Being emotional is a way to show compassion, sure, but it was laid on pretty heavily in my opinion. Those moments made me want more of the strong-willed Diana discovering her true powers with no insight from anyone around her. There was some comedy sprinkled in amongst the action and I really think it was a perfect balance. I know some were a bit worried about how Gal Gadot would measure up in this iconic role, but I thought she really pulled it off! Chris Pine and the rest of the supporting cast were great too.
Might I also add that this bad ass, female warrior movie was also directed by a woman! Wonder Woman is a movie that empowers women and young girls, and also proves that women can stack up just fine amongst a world of male superheroes.
With all of that being said, let me say that this movie relied heavily on CGI, but considering the fact that this is based on a comic book character, you kind of have to go into it knowing that a lot of the movie is fantasy-based. Also, my friends and I waited until after the credits and there was no extra snippet at the end . . . just an FYI lol.
So make plans with your girls (and guys) and catch Wonder Woman in theaters June 2nd. If you head out this weekend, let me know what you thought!

I got to see a screening of BAYWATCH last night here in Miami and, I have to admit, it was a bit better than I expected!
Now, I used to watch the BAYWATCH TV show back in the 90s, so my initial thought was Oh no, this is most definitely going to flop; It’s going to have cheesy moments of reflection that will kill the funny, etc. I can’t sit here and say that it was the best movie I’ve seen in years, but comedy-wise it ranks pretty high on my list.
SYNOPSIS: Devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchanan butts heads with a brash new recruit. Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay.
Zac Efron and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson have amazing comedic chemistry throughout the entire film. Every scene they were in together had me laughing hysterically. Especially because Mitch (Dwayne Johnson) refused to say Brody’s (Zac Efron) name and, instead, opted for any boyband name he could think of.
The storyline was mildly interesting. The “team” takes matters into their own hands when Victoria Leeds (Priyanka Chopra) threatens their bay by selling drugs and ruthlessly killing whoever gets in her way. Honestly, I probably could’ve done without the dragged out dramatic storyline, but it did tie in with what the team was trying to accomplish, so I guess it worked in that respect.
I know many people are trying to find out if this movie is acceptable for the little ones to watch. My 12-year-old niece came with me and it wasn’t all that bad BUT there are a ton of dirty conversations, an incident with someone’s junk getting stuck between two wooden slats from a beach chair, and a moment where a dead man’s penis is definitely front and center. The scenes are definitely funny, but if you don’t want your child seeing a penis on-screen, definitely be on alert during the scene at the morgue. You’re welcome!
Overall, I thought it was a decent movie. Like I said, not my favorite movie of all time, but I think it’s definitely worth a viewing. Try to remember that they’re sort of spoofing the TV show, so a few of the action scenes are a bit far-fetched, but the chemistry between the cast and the comedic timing of everyone involved is what makes this movie worth seeing.

Ok, let me first say that this trailer captured my attention immediately when it was released. Not just because my niece has had a crush on Nick Robinson since Jurassic World either. It was because I actually felt the chemistry between Nick Robinson and Amandla Stenberg in a trailer that was less than three minutes long.
With that being said, I went into the screening for this movie having NOT read the book, so I have nothing to compare it to, but now I definitely want to read it!
I thought the film was GREAT! I had a preconceived notion that it would be the typical young, teen angst/love story where you end up sobbing into a box of tissues because you can most definitely predict the outcome.
Spoiler alert: I was wrong. For the most part anyway.
The movie follows a young girl, Maddy, who has just turned 18 and has never left her house due to an illness called Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID). Basically her immune system sucks and can’t fight off even the most mild of infections or allergies. Her life is turned upside down when a cutie pie, Olly, moves in next door and has his eyes set on her from the beginning. He awakens her need to know what it’s like to truly live outside the confines of her home.
The casting for this movie was fantastic. Nick Robinson and Amandla Stenberg had great chemistry. When their characters felt awkward, it was obvious. When they developed feelings for each other, you could feel it. When worry and confusion set in, you felt that too. There were funny moments combined with sad moments, mixed with a little worry and anxiety about whether Maddy (Amandla Stenberg) would live or die, and it all marinated into a beautiful story about falling in love and truly living your life.
Sure, there could have been a bit more character development that I’m sure was missing from the book to film adaptation, but I still thought it was a solid movie that I would most definitely see again. Perhaps an extra 30 minutes might have done the trick. Even so, my brother, who is a 37-year-old man that literally hates chick flicks even said it was a very good movie. I’m looking at all you guys that think it’s uncool to watch movies like this hahaha. I promise you, it’s okay!
If it’s any consolation to you book lovers out there, my niece’s friend saw the movie with me and she’d read the book. She said they stuck to the book for the most part. I can not confirm nor deny that personally, but I will definitely check the book out now to fill in any blanks I might have had while watching the movie (and there weren’t many).
So go out with your friends and family to check out Everything, Everything in theaters May 19! You won’t regret it!
You should also check out the novel of the same title by Nicola Yoon (like I’m going to do)!
Have you seen it yet? When you do, let me know what you thought!
Another episode of The Originals is in the books and this one was a special one! Episode 7 titled “High Water and the Devil’s Daughter” served as the directorial debut of our beloved Charles Michael Davis (aka Marcel) and it was fantastic!

Meanwhile, Elijah takes matters into his own hands when Vincent is reluctant to perform a dangerous ritual needed to strengthen their defense against The Hollow. Finally, while Freya enacts a risky plan that brings her face to face with their latest threat, an unexpected twist leaves her life hanging in the balance.
Ok . . . so I had to take a minute to compose myself after the influx of music releases and announcements over the past two weeks! How did you all hold up? lol . . .
So let’s talk tours first! Fans received announcements from some of their favorite artists regarding upcoming tours and, personally, I couldn’t be more excited! I’m hoping to make some contacts so I can keep up with all of them and get some show reviews posted for you all! Fingers crossed on that. Some of the artists who posted tour announcements include Fall Out Boy (dates posted below), Halsey (dates posted below), Janet Jackson, Harry Styles (dates posted below), Linkin Park, Sabrina Carpenter, Kendrick Lamar, an extension of the current Kings of Leon tour, the list goes on and on! Not to mention the fact that some of our favorite artists are currently working on new music, which means (hopefully) even more announcements are sure to be on their way!
Also announced in the past two weeks are singles, singles, and more singles! Fall Out Boy released “Young and Menace,” Imagine Dragons released “Thunder,” OneRepublic released “No Vacancy,” Harry Styles released “Sweet Creature,” Halsey released “Eyes Closed,” Paramore released “Told You So,” Niall Horan released “Slow Hands,” X Ambassadors released “Torches,” etc., etc., etc.
In light of all of these announcements, we also got a few music videos to watch! Anyone else miss when MTV and VH1 used to play music videos? Do they even do it at all anymore? Let me know! Here are a few of the new ones:
Which artists are you more excited about? Are there any tours you’re planning on attending? Are there any new artists I should be listening to? Sound off in the comments or tweet me @thisiskristin_! I also would LOVE to know who’s planning on attending ‘Kinky Boots’ on Broadway this summer to see Brendon Urie from Panic! at the Disco playing Charlie? I know I am! 🙂
