Take another trip into the Harry Potter Universe, but this time the trip takes audiences back into history to discover “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”

The wondrous imagery on screen is matched with a splendid story told with a different tone than the Harry Potter franchise established.

Wizard-writer Newt Scamander, played by Eddie Redmayne, comes to New York in 1926 where he comes into contact with a secret community of witches and wizards.

Redmayne is charming and grabs the attention of the audience by being bizarre and curious onscreen. This role was brilliant as he can play off of his supporting cast which dazzle at his side.

Newt comes into a No-Maj, American for Muggle or someone who does not practice magic, named Jacob, played by Dan Fogler, who unintentionally causes obstacles for Newt on his travels.

Fogler is part of the heart of the movie and with such an innocence and naive nature that quickly he becomes an audience favorite. Despite not having any magic, Fogler’s performance is brilliant.

To increase the troubles, a witch by the name of Porpentina, played by Katherine Waterston, wants to get back in good standing with the secret witch and wizard society and brings in Newt to turn him in for almost revealing the witch and wizard community in New York.

Waterston plays a fantastic female lead. She is able to fit well as a strange and quirky counterpart to Redmayne. The two actors mesh together well and create an enjoyable partnership.

With a brilliant story, which takes twists and turns to keep the audience’s attention, the action sequences full of magic and wonder have substance behind them.

The conflict only grows as the story progresses and keeps the villain a mystery.

Writer J.K. Rowling did a fantastic job of sticking to this Harry Potter universe well, but gives audiences a taste of how truly magical and action packed this universe can be.

Director David Yates keeps a steady pace going throughout, which is just fast enough to always feel like the movie is going forward and not dragging along.

The ending is surprising, it doesn’t matter how much of the story is figured out during the movie, there’s ways an element which catches the audience off-guard.

I give this movie 4 out of 5. It’s just about perfect. There’s so many good elements, great actors, beautiful cinematography, amazing visual effects, especially on a giant Real D 3D premiere screen, but there could have been more magical fantastic beasts involved in the story. It’s a movie that is worth paying the extra money to watch in theaters and every surprise will catch people’s attention.

Cantinflas, one of Mexico’s most beloved cinematic personalities and a masterful comedian, entertained families throughout the Americas for decades.

Often called the Charlie Chaplin of America, Cantinflas was an internationally known clown, acrobat, musician, satirist, business leader, activist and philanthropist who became a symbol of pride and hope.In honor of the holiday season, Cine Sony Television, a Sony Pictures Television network, has announced the network’s biggest ever movie marathon that features 33 films starring the legendary Mexican crossover comedian, Cantinflas.

Starting Thanksgiving Day at 7am ET/8 a.m. CT, this four day event will consist of popular films such as El Analfabeto, Los Tres Mosqueteros and A Volar Joven, all uncensored and commercial free.

You won’t want to miss this Thanksgiving marathon full of Spanish-language puns and explosions of laughter.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a wonderful leap back into J.K. Rowlings magical world, but it’s not what you might think. While it does tie into the Harry Potter timelime, this one is set in 1926 it New York City. It also centers on a Hufflepuff named Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) rather than a boy with a lightning bolt on his forehead.

Expelled from Hogwarts in England, Schamander travels overseas to America with a tiny brown suitcase full of magical creatures. When he accidentally swaps cases with a no-maj (American muggle) named Jacob (Dan Fogler), some of those precious beings escape and he embarks on an adventure to return them. Along for the ride are Tina (Katherine Waterston), who works for the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA), and her sister Queenie (Alison Sudol), a sultry mindreader.

There are familiar elements, like the constant struggle for witches and wizards to hide magic from no-majs. And then there’s the theme of abused children, which appears in much of Rowling’s works, as Credence (Ezra Miller) often finds himself on the receiving end of corporal punishment by his foster mother, Mary Lou Barebone (Samantha Morton).

According to director David Yates, he’ll play a major part in the next movies to come. Here, might call him the secondary star. His haunting portrayal of an abused, repressed teen manifests physically in his crouched stance and the submissive way he interacts with Auror Percival Graves (Colin Farrell), whom he’s covertly working with.

“Credence…maybe want isn’t a sufficient word for him because he’s really seeking all this stuff that he desperately needs and Graves is sort of dispensing those things to keep Credence in his trap,” Ezra told me of their relationship. It’s one that feels inappropriate to watch, but at the same time, you can’t turn away.

And that’s the biggest difference between this story and the one about the Boy Who Lived. While Potter’s world was filled some moments of darkness, it never presented such an unsettling relationship as the one between Graves and Credence. Fantastic Beasts also delivers a completely different dynamic, in that we’re focused on four complex adults who’ve already had their coming of age tales. That’s not to say Potterheads won’t enjoy this film. It still has all the main ingredients: magic, wonder, heart, and a group of super talented British (and Irish and American) actors.

In other words, what are you contemplating? You know this movie will be great! Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them heads to theaters on November 18.

The story of the loving couple who changed nation to the supreme court case Loving V. Virginia, which brought the right to love anyone regardless of color, gets told in an impactful way in “Loving.”

Loving V. Virginia is taught in history classes and law classes, the story gets told and it’s moving. In this age it seems that the nation is seeing similar prejudice.

“Loving” tells the story of Richard, played by Joel Edgerton, and Mildred Loving, Ruth Negga, who after getting married go through some tough trials.

Edgerton has a stoic demeanor with a quiet yet strong look. There are few words that come from Edgerton, but the moments which went down in history are made that much more intense.

Negga has a charm which is innocent and strong. Her manner of delivering lines captures a southern woman in that era.

The couple got married and then spent the following nine years fighting to be recognized as a legal married couple and a family in their hometown in Virginia.

The manner in which many of the instances get depicted in a scary, yet realistic way.

From being arrested in the middle out the night out of their bedroom because they are an interracial married couple to being exiled from Virginia and all the turmoil there after.

The court battles are never really seen other than the climactic Supreme Court scene, but the one instant which leaves audiences silent comes splendid and unexpected.

As Richard’s lawyer asks him what he wants the Supreme Court judge to know the stoic man of few words says, “Tell the judge I love my wife.”

Those words sticks when reading them in a history book, reading them in a thick law book and now when hearing them spoken from Edgerton.

I give this bio-pic 4 out of 5 Popcorns. Being so familiar with the story I’ve seen several productions that have tried to do justice to the story and they all fall short of telling a compelling story. This movie, although it is slow-paced, is well developed and shows enough to capture the attention of the audience, make them care about Richard and Mildred and it doesn’t push the boundaries to make the story feel unbelievable. There’s some moments which the true story has which could have suited the story and the impactful nature of it.

It’s 1948 and the Cold War has reached Chile.

Police Prefect Oscar Peluchonneau (Bernal) is assigned to arrest the poet. Neruda tries to flee the country with his wife, the painter Delia del Carril, but they are forced into hiding, where Neruda writes his epic collection of poems, “Canto General.”
In Europe, the legend of the poet hounded by the policeman grows, and artists led by Pablo Picasso clamor for Neruda’s freedom.
Neruda sees this struggle with his nemesis Peluchonneau as an opportunity to reinvent himself, and he sets about playing games with the inspector, leaving clues designed to make their conflict more dangerous, and more intimate.
In this story of a persecuted poet and his implacable adversary, Neruda recognizes his own heroic possibilities: a chance to become both a symbol for liberty and a literary legend.

Synopsis:

Primo TV and Kids Central Will Launch on Comcast’s Xfinity TV in January 2017


Prepare to watch television programming filled with options catering to the bicultural Hispanic community. The networks, Kids Central and Primo TV will focus on two different age groups featuring education and entertainment based programming appealing to bicultural Latino families in January 2017 through Comcast Cable.

Comcast Corporation announced it has selected two new Hispanic American-owned independent networks to be broadly distributed on Comcast Cable systems beginning in January 2017.  After a thorough evaluation of dozens of proposals, Comcast selected Primo TV and Kids Central, both of which will provide quality family programming targeted to bicultural Hispanic youth.

“Kids Central and Primo TV’s unique focus on young bicultural Hispanics fill an unmet need in youth-oriented programming and further demonstrate our commitment to providing the best experience for bicultural Hispanic families,” said Javier Garcia, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Multicultural Services at Comcast Cable. “We believe that these networks will provide high-quality educational and entertaining content while infusing Latino culture into the experience.”

Kids Central is an English-language network consisting of age-appropriate programming with high educational value and entertainment standards that appeals to bicultural Hispanic viewers ages 3-7.  In primetime, the network expands its audience with a block of family-oriented programming targeted to the whole family.  Kids Central will provide both English and Spanish language video on demand content. Kids Central is owned and operated by Condista Networks.

“We are proud to work with Comcast to bring this network to viewers,” said Jorge Fiterre, President of Condista Networks.  “Kids Central offers a new option for both English and Spanish speaking children and their families.”

Primo TV is an English-language network that will appeal to bicultural Hispanic viewers ages 6-16 and consisting of age-appropriate programming with high educational value and entertainment standards. Primo TV will build off the proven track record of V-Me and V-Me Kids with diverse content such as animated series, adventure programming and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Awareness that will connect US Hispanics with their cultural roots.  The network will also provide several video on demand content options. Primo TV is owed by V-Me Media, Inc.

“We’re excited to launch Primo TV on Comcast,” said Victor X. Cerda, Senior Vice President at V-Me Media, Inc.  “Primo TV supports V-Me Media’s mission to provide empowering content to the next wave of Hispanic and bicultural youth.  V-Me also applauds Comcast for supporting a Hispanic-owned network in reaching a growing population with content that positively reflects U.S. Hispanic values on screen.”

To narrow down the proposals received, the main criteria Comcast considered were: the content of the network; whether the network is fully financed; whether the networks’ ownership and/or management group(s) are well established, have relevant experience, and are substantially owned by Hispanic Americans; whether the network has launched and has existing or potential multichannel video programming distributor (MVPD) distribution; price; and whether the network and its potential carriage provide value to Comcast and its customers.

Comcast carries over 160 independent networks, including many small, diverse, and international networks.  In 2011, as part of Comcast’s commitments made in connection with the NBCUniversal transaction, Comcast agreed to launch 10 new independently owned and operated networks by 2019, eight of which will be minority-owned.  Five networks have already launched, including El Rey (2013) and BabyFirst Americas (2012), which are primarily Hispanic American owned and operated; REVOLT (2013) and  ASPiRE (2012), which are majority African American owned; and BBC World News (2011).  Kids Central and Primo TV will be the next two networks to launch as part of this commitment.

In this interplanetary adventure, a space shuttle embarks on the first mission to colonize Mars, only to discover after takeoff that one of the astronauts is pregnant.

Shortly after landing, she dies from complications while giving birth to the first human born on the red planet – never revealing who the father is.

Thus begins the extraordinary life of Gardner Elliot – an inquisitive, highly intelligent boy who reaches the age of 16 having only met 14 people in his very unconventional upbringing.

While searching for clues about his father, and the home planet he’s never known, Gardner begins an online friendship with a street smart girl in Colorado named Tulsa.

When he finally gets a chance to go to Earth, he’s eager to experience all of the wonders he could only read about on Mars – from the most simple to the extraordinary.

But once his explorations begin, scientists discover that Gardner’s organs can’t withstand Earth’s atmosphere.

Eager to find his father, Gardner escapes the team of scientists and joins with Tulsa on a race against time to unravel the mysteries of how he came to be, and where he belongs in the universe.

The Monster

Wasup movie fans?! Well, I actually had the chance to check this out late last night…yep…once everyone fell asleep…I climbed into bed with my iPad and started THE MONSTER.

OK…let me start off by saying…DO NOT. Let me repeat myself…DO NOT WATCH THE TRAILER. Now…the trailer doesn’t really ruin anything but…ya gotta keep this one ole natural! (lol) Just trust when I say…you gotta watch THE MONSTER.

So…what’s the movie about – without giving anything away. Kathy played by Zoe Kazan and Lizzy played by Ella Ballentine are mother and daughter – right from the beginning – you can tell they’ve had some serious conflicts in their relationship…as you keep watching – you see these conflicts in a few flashbacks and…HOLY CRAP BALLS…talk about CRAAZZZYYYYYYYYYYYY.

So because of all the craziness – Lizzy would like to spend some time with her dad. Kathy’s job – drive her there. Sounds pretty simple, right? WRRRONNGGGGG!!! On their way there – Kathy hits a wolf crossing the road, blows out a tire and totally messes up the car. After calling dad and giving him the scoop – they decide to investigate the dead wolf on the road (I know, whyyyy?) They see that the wolf has huge gashes in it – NOT from the car – but from something else…but what could it be? They then find a tooth. A HUGE FREAKING TOOTH. They soon realize – hmmmmm maybe this whole thing with the wolf…is more serious than they thought. Maybe this wolf was being chased by something!!! Something BIGGER and SCARIER!

…AND THAT’S IT – that’s all I’m gonna say…well…one more thing. IT GETS BANANAS FROM THERE!

The Monster

So. WHAT DID I LIKE ABOUT ‘THE MONSTER?’
I didn’t like it – I freaking LOVED it. Within the first 23 minutes of the movie…I was totally pulled in. 35 minutes into the movie…I began getting uneasy, WTF feelings (lol)…which is a good thing. 1 hour into the movie…I realized for me…this was one of the best horror movie’s I’ve seen in a long time..definitely becomes my BEST HORROR MOVIE FOR 2016 – that’s for sure. Writer/Director Bryan Bertino did an awesome job. Loved the music. Loved the way it was shot. Just a great movie.

Let’s talk about the cast – Holy Crap Balls! Ella Ballentine who plays Lizzy. She was amazing. Freaking amazing. She made you feel everything she was feeling. There’s a scene where they’re both in the car and she’s scared and crying. GOOD LORD. I wanted to jump into the TV and hug this little girl. (lol) Man. I have a 2 year son and I immediately started thinking – what would I do in this situation. Ella’s a force movie fans – she’s one of my favs now…after watching this movie – I started following her on Twitter!! Zoe Kazan who plays Kathy the mom. She was amazing as well. Freaking amazing. There were so many times I wanted to karate chop her through the TV…then I became Team Kathy…then I wanted to karate chop her…then Team Kathy again. Zoe was great at playing with my emotions! (lol) I hated her and I loved her…damnnnn youuuuuuu!! The chemistry of these two in the movie – just perfect. They seriously did a great job.

I also loved the monster. I don’t want to give anything away – so – yeah – I loved the monster. (lol)

So. WHAT DID I NOT LIKE ABOUT ‘THE MONSTER?”
Nothing. It was awesome. Just go see this freaking movie.

I give THE MONSTER…5 out of 5 popcorns!

The Monster

THE MONSTER opens today in Houston, TX. It’s actually showing at the AMC Gulf Pointe 30. Why one freaking theater? This movie needs to be seen I say. Rumor has it – it’s available on VOD – so maybe you can find it there.

Just go see this movie. I’m definitely adding this movie to my DVD/Blu-ray collection.

Unbelievable true story of non-violent heroism in the midst of one of the most violent battlefields of World War II, “Hacksaw Ridge” shows true heroism can be more surprising than any superhero story.

Desmond Doss, played by Andrew Garfield, held true to his beliefs through many trials and opposition to show how his undying trust in his faith could bring him more power than any man made weapon.

Garfield was fantastic in the role. He took on a larger-than-life true-to-life character and with some wit and charm was able to portray him in a truthful and relatable manner.

The movie stays at a steady pace which makes each scene, each test Desmond is put through and each character more intense.

Director Mel Gibson finds a way to contrast a beautiful story of love and faith with the gruesome reality of war.

Gibson truly takes on a monumental story and is able to guide his fantastic cast of actors to give a raw feel to the emotions through subtle dialogue and powerful performances.

Through the story the trials of Desmond seem too hard to go through and at points he becomes a person too selfless to be true, but, through trust in his faith, Desmond takes on all challenges and obstacles head on.

The spectacular true story is adapted for the big screen in a great way, is shown in a realistic manner and can be enjoyed by audiences.

I give this war movie 4 out of 5 Popcorns. The movie as a whole shows the power of determination and faith. The acting from all the cast members is phenomenal, from Andrew Garfield as the lead, Teresa Palmer and Vince Vaughn to all the extras in the battlefield.

Universal Plaza, the elaborate grand piazza at the heart of the theme park, will once againserve as the backdrop for the “Grinchmas” event where the towering 60 foot tall whimsical “Grinchmas” tree will beautifully twist and spiral as the ideal photo opp for guests. “Grinchmas” runs weekends on Dec. 3-4 and 10-11, and daily from Dec. 16 through Jan. 1, 2017.

As part of the fab-Who-lous event, Martha May Who-vier and the Who Dolls will take center stage by the “Grinchmas” tree, performing energetic musical sets to usher in the Christmas season in style.

The Who-liday Singers – a hip boy-band ensemble – will perform nightly a cappella concerts featuring a mix of Christmas favorites and pop rock.

The spirited “Grinchmas” event will also capture guests’ imagination with a variety of inspiring activities designed to create long lasting memories. These include:

  • Who-ville Post Office – Visitors will have a chance to partake in the “Grow Your Heart 3 Sizes” campaign when they share their good deeds on a postcard and mail them to The Grinch. In return, Dr. Seuss Enterprises, L.P. and Random House Children’s Books, the publishers of Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, will pay it forward by donating a book to a child in need through First Book on behalf of the sender.
  • Trim up the Tree Lot – Guests can design and personalize their own “Grinchmas” ornaments to help decorate the venue’s other “Grinchmas” trees or take them home as a memorable keepsake.
  • Story Time with Cindy-Lou Who – Cindy-Lou Who and her Who friends will gather guests of all ages – tall and small – for an engaging storytelling show of Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

The spirit of “Grinchmas” also will come to life aboard the world-famous behind-the-scenes Studio Tour with engaging performances by unforgettable Who-ville Whos re-enacting popular scenes and songs from the family favorite at the original film sets from the blockbuster film, Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

The spirit of the season continues with a wintertime transformation of Universal CityWalk, beginning the day after Thanksgiving on Nov. 25 through Jan. 1, 2017.

A spectacular 40-foot tall Christmas tree will glisten with 200,000 LED icicles choreographed to the lights and sounds of the season in the “5 Towers” plaza. Santa Claus will make nightly appearances and offer special photo opportunities at “5 Towers.”

The iconic, dancing water fountain situated at the heart of CityWalk also will make a splash this holiday season.

This modern and impressive fountain displaying over 230 individual power jets will project streams of choreographed water into the air complemented by red and green LED lights and an array of holiday-themed music.

Free concert performances at “5 Towers” and an eclectic ensemble of talented street performers will make CityWalk the ultimate L.A. holiday destination.

Oscar winner Ben Affleck (“Argo”) directed and stars in the dramatic crime thriller “Live by Night.”

Affleck also wrote the screenplay based on the award-winning best-seller by Dennis Lehane, marking the second collaboration for the fellow Boston natives, following the acclaimed drama “Gone Baby Gone.”

“Live by Night” is set in the roaring `20s when Prohibition hasn’t stopped the flow of booze in an underground network of gangster-run speakeasies.

The opportunity to gain power and money is there for any man with enough ambition and nerve and Joe Coughlin, the son of the Boston Police Superintendent, long ago turned his back on his strict upbringing for the spoils of being an outlaw.

But even among criminals there are rules and Joe breaks a big one: crossing a powerful mob boss by stealing his money and his moll.

The fiery affair ends in tragedy, setting Joe on a path of revenge, ambition, romance and betrayal that propels him out of Boston and up the ladder of Tampa’s steamy rum-running underworld.

“Live by Night” is produced by Leonardo DiCaprio (“The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Out of the Furnace”) and Jennifer Davisson (“The Ides of March,” “Orphan”), under the Appian Way banner; and Ben Affleck and Jennifer Todd (“Alice in Wonderland,” “Across the Universe”) for Pearl Street Films. Chris Brigham, Chay Carter and Dennis Lehane are serving as executive producers.

Starring with Affleck are Elle Fanning (“Maleficent”), Chris Messina (“Argo,” “The Mindy Project”), Sienna Miller (“American Sniper,” “Foxcatcher”), Zoe Saldana (“Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Avatar”), and Oscar winner Chris Cooper (“Adaptation,” “The Town”). The cast also includes Max Casella, (“Inside Llewyn Davis,” “Blue Jasmine”), J.D. Evermore (“Dallas Buyers Club”), Remo Girone (“Heaven”), Robert Glenister (“Persuasion”), Anthony Michael Hall (“Foxcatcher”), Matthew Maher (“Gone Baby Gone”), Miguel J. Pimentel, Chris Sullivan (“The Drop”) and Titus Welliver (“Argo,” “The Town”).

Behind the scenes, Affleck collaborated with three-time Oscar-winning director of photography Robert Richardson (“JFK,” “The Aviator,” “Hugo”) Oscar-nominated production designer Jess Gonchor (“True Grit,” “Foxcatcher”), Oscar-winning editor William Goldenberg (“Argo”), and Oscar-nominated costume designer Jacqueline West (“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “Argo”). The score is composed by Harry Gregson-Williams (“The Martian,” “Gone Baby Gone”).
