SYNOPSIS: In “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms,” Clara travels along a golden thread, presented at Drosselmeyer’s (Morgan Freeman) annual party, eagerly searching for a one-of-a-kind key that will unlock a music box that holds a priceless gift. When she enters a mysterious parallel world, Clara encounters a Nutcracker soldier named Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight), a gang of mice and three Realm regents, including the Sugar Plum Fairy (Keira Knightley). Ultimately, she must brave the ominous Fourth Realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren), to retrieve the key and return harmony to the unstable world.

HOPE VISTA Releases Haunting Single “SKIN & BONES”

Hope Vista, lead vocalist of alternative rock band VISTA, has released her new single “SKIN & BONES,” out on all digital platforms NOW. I am SO ready for Season 2!!!! Ok, maybe I’m not!!

SYNOPSIS: The series revolves around Frank Castle, who uses lethal methods to fight crime as the vigilante “the Punisher”, with Jon Bernthal reprising the role from Daredevil.

I can’t wait to see what happens this season! I mean, let’s be honest . . . Jon Bernthal’s portrayal of Frank Castle is one of the best ruthless vigilante performances and Ben Barnes as Billy Russo is that gorgeous villain you hate to love and love to hate lol.

In a few interviews, Ben Barnes has said that “Jigsaw” will be more of a metaphorical concept now that he’s trying to piece together what happened. Not gonna lie, when I saw him all bandaged up at the end of the first season, I was worried about what he’d look like in Season 2. I’m terrible, I know. Don’t judge me!

Season 2 is sure to have some more of the incredible chemistry between these two characters, along with some fantastic supporting roles. I can not wait! For now, enjoy the teaser trailer that Netflix released today.

BIRDS OF PASSAGE | In Theaters February 13

poster From the producer (Gallego) and director (Guerra) of EMBRACE OF THE SERPENT, the first Colombian film ever to be nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar®, BIRDS OF PASSAGE opened Directors’ Fortnight at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, where it was met with glowing reviews, and went on to screen at the Telluride, Toronto, San Sebastian and BFI London film festivals. The film recently won three Fenix Film Awards, including Best Fictional Film and Best Actress, and was nominated in a total of nine categories.

Selected as Colombia’s Official Oscar® entry for Best Foreign Language Film and set to play in the 2019 Sundance Film Festival’s Spotlight program, BIRDS OF PASSAGE will be released by The Orchard on Wednesday, February 13 in New York and Friday, February 15 in Los Angeles, with a national rollout to follow.

Tracing the origins of the Colombian drug trade as it slowly corrupts a native Wayúu family, BIRDS OF PASSAGE stars Wayúu descendants Jose Acosta and Carmiña Martínez alongside rising Colombia star Natalia Reyes (of the upcoming TERMINATOR reboot) and is stunningly shot by longtime collaborator David Gallego (EMBRACE OF THE SERPENT; I AM NOT A WITCH).

BIRDS OF PASSAGE marks the directorial debut of prolific producer Gallego, who also produces the film alongside Katrin Pors and takes a Story By credit. This is the fourth feature film for co-director Guerra, who is helming the upcoming film adaptation of Nobel laureate J.M. Coetzee’s classic novel Waiting for the Barbarians starring Robert Pattinson, Mark Rylance and Johnny Depp.

Torn between his desire to become a powerful man and his duty to uphold his culture’s values, Rapayet (Acosta) enters the drug trafficking business in the 1970s to secure a dowry to marry Zaida (Reyes) and finds quick success despite the disapproval of his tribe’s matriarch, Ursula (Martínez). Ignoring ancient omens, Rapayet and his family get caught up in a conflict where honor is the highest currency and debts are paid with blood.

Cristina Gallego was born in Bogotá and studied film at the National University of Colombia before forming the production company Ciudad Lunar with Ciro Guerra in 2001. She served as producer on Guerra’s feature debut THE WANDERING SHADOWS (2004), which won awards at San Sebastian and several other film festivals and was selected for over 60 more, including Tribeca and Locarno. Gallego went on to produce and receive Additional Editing credits on Guerra’s next two films, the award-winning THE WIND JOURNEYS, which premiered as part of the Official Selection – Un Certain Regard section of the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, and 2015’s EMBRACE OF THE SERPENT. Gallego has also produced films by directors from Spain (Pedro Aguilera’s SISTER OF MINE, 2017), Palestine (Annemarie Jacir’s WAJIB, 2017) and Panama (Abner Benahim’s RUBEN BLADES IS NOT MY NAME, 2018). BIRDS OF PASSAGE, which Gallego produced and receives a Story By credit on, is her directorial debut.

Ciro Guerra studied film at the National University of Colombia and at age 21, after directing four multi-award-winning short films, he wrote and directed his first feature, THE WANDERING SHADOWS (2004). The film won awards at San Sebastian and several other film festivals and was selected for over 60 more, including Tribeca and Locarno. His second feature film, THE WIND JOURNEYS, was part of the Official Selection – Un Certain Regard section of the 2009 Cannes Film Festival and was selected in a national critics’ poll as one of the 10 most important films in Colombian cinema. Following the premiere of his award-winning third film, EMBRACE OF THE SERPENT, in the Director’s Fortnight section of the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, Guerra was named one of Variety’s 10 Directors to Watch. BIRDS OF PASSAGE is his fourth feature film.

EMBRACE OF THE SERPENT was the third Gallego-produced and Guerra-directed film to be submitted by Colombia in the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar® category. The film premiered in Directors’ Fortnight at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, where it was awarded the top prize, the CIACE Art Cinema Award, and screened in the Spotlight section of the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, where it was awarded the Alfred P. Sloan Prize. EMBRACE OF THE SERPENT was awarded the Golden Astor at the 2015 Mar Del Plata International Film Festival, was nominated for a 2016 Film Independent Spirit Award for Best International Film, and won eight Macondo awards, Colombia’s equivalent of the Academy Awards®, including Best Film and Best Director.

WATCH: Now on Netflix | Once in a Lifetime Sessions with ONEREPUBLIC

I’ve been a huge fan of OneRepublic for years now. I’ve even claimed that ‘Native’ is my favorite album of all time — yes, even above my all-time favorite Justin Timberlake‘s albums. They’re musical geniuses no matter how you break it down. I got to see them live once when they co-headlined with The Script a few years ago and it was one of my favorite shows I’ve been to. Now I’m just waiting for them to come down to Miami again!

When I saw that a session from this documentary series with OneRepublic would be available on Netflix, I had to jump at the chance to watch it because why the heck wouldn’t I??

SYNOPSIS: Once In A Lifetime Sessions is an original and unique music documentary series giving viewers the chance to get up close and personal with some of today’s most celebrated music icons. Filmed on location at some of the greatest studios around the world, the Sessions highlight the craftsmanship, artistic depth, incredible skill and talent of the artists whilst also showcasing their catalogue. Each episode is dedicated to a single artist or group and features both an intimate live performance and a vinyl recording session. These are woven together with exclusive interview footage and a masterclass exploring the stories behind some of the most memorable songs of all time. Episodes include OneRepublic, Kasabian, George Ezra, Snow Patrol, TLC, Moby, Noel Gallagher and Nile Rodgers. Now streaming on US Netflix.

In all honesty, I’d never heard of this series before this particular session, but I love shows like this. I used to love watching MAKING THE VIDEO and the DIARY series on MTV back in the day (I’m in my 30’s, don’t attack me lol). As a lover of music and entertainment, I loved being able to see the behind-the-scenes of it all. How things began as an idea and how that idea was actually put together for an artist. That’s what really fascinated me. Getting to know your favorite artists behind the music. This series reminds me of that. You get to learn a little more about OneRepublic from their own mouths and you also get to watch a few live performances of them on stage.

I highly recommend check out this episode and also going back and watching any others that you can find! Personally, I’m hooked!

STRANGER THINGS | Season 3 Hits Netflix July 4

Ladies and gentlemen, Netflix has finally announced an official release date for Season 3 of STRANGER THINGS! While our favorite kids will be in 1985, we’ll be able to enjoy the third season in its entirety on July 4, 2019 via Netflix.

The teaser trailer and release date were available at midnight New Year’s Eve, which is a nice little tie in with the teaser.

Are there any theories or predictions about what will happen in Season 3?? What are you most excited for? I’m still amazed at how Steve became one of our favorite characters lol.

Movie Review by Kristin: Netflix’s BRAIN ON FIRE

Holy shish kabobs!

I saw the trailer for BRAIN ON FIRE on Netflix a while ago, and I finally had a chance to sit down and watch it this week.

For the most part it was pretty slow-moving, but seeing as this movie was based on the real life story of Susannah Cahalan, it was also pretty terrifying.

SYNOPSIS: Susannah Cahalan is a promising writer at the New York Post. She’s young, she’s happy and she’s living her best life in NYC. When she begins exhibiting unexplained erratic & violent behavior, her parents & doctors race the clock to correctly diagnose her condition and to bring Susannah back.

The first half of the movie, as I mentioned, was pretty slow-moving. This is no action movie, but it’s the telling of the real Susannah Cahalan’s experience with a rare condition called anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis. So, the slowness is just us watching a normal day in Susannah’s life before experiencing any symptoms. Once she begins experiencing symptoms, it’s a downhill battle because no one knows exactly what’s causing her behavior and none of her doctors know what her diagnosis is just yet.

It was interesting to watch the movie and watch this person go through something as terrifying as basically being trapped inside of your own body, and then to read the facts about how many people go through this unknowingly.

Movie Review by Kristin: BIRD BOX

I’ve been waiting months for BIRD BOX to finally be released on Netflix, so I was excited to curl up on the couch to check it out last night after doing some last-minute Christmas shopping. Because nothing says holiday spirit like a supernatural apocalyptic movie that has you on the edge of your seat for about 2 hours, amiright? My excitement to see this was heightened after seeing some of the feedback on Twitter about it. I definitely went into it with high expectations and it delivered!

No lie, I felt like I needed a Xanax to calm my anxiety throughout most of the movie — ok, all of the movie. My body was tense the whole time and I just couldn’t stop watching. Unfortunately, it’s easy to compare BIRD BOX to A Quiet Place because they both have similar concepts, but this one took the cake for me.

SYNOPSIS: When a mysterious force decimates the population, only one thing is certain — if you see it, you die. The survivors must now avoid coming face to face with an entity that takes the form of their worst fears. Searching for hope and a new beginning, a woman and her children embark on a dangerous journey through the woods and down a river to find the one place that may offer sanctuary. To make it, they’ll have to cover their eyes from the evil that chases them — and complete the trip blindfolded.

BIRD BOX gave me a little bit of what A Quiet Place didn’t. I can’t really pin point exactly what that was, but once the movie was done I didn’t feel like something had been missing. The cast was incredible, the plot was interesting and Sandra Bullock’s performance throughout the movie was probably one of her best performances. (Side note: Why the heck is Trevante Rhodes not being mentioned anywhere? Between BIRD BOX and Moonlight, he deserves a bit more recognition.) One thing that I appreciated in this movie was that viewers never get to see whatever it is that causes the mass suicides once it’s seen. The fear of the unknown is brutal, so I liked that we never really had a physical image to go along with whatever supernatural being was causing this mass terror.

It’s definitely worth the watch. Douglas (John Malkovich) will make you want to punch your TV screen, Olympia (Danielle Macdonald) will make you want to scream in her face, Felix (Machine Gun Kelly) will make you wonder why his character was even there in the first place if he wasn’t going to be given any significant importance (not that I don’t like MGK), and Mallory (Sandra Bullock) and Tom (Trevante Rhodes) will make you want to be their besties during any apocalyptic situation.

Addictive New App: DOLLIFY

I’ve been following an artist, David Alvarez, on IG (dave.xp) for quite some time and I absolutely love his work. He basically uses Photoshop to draw doll versions of celebrities and some of his followers. Sometimes he holds contests on Fridays where he randomly chooses one of his followers to draw.

There were so many times where I hoped my name would be announced, but alas, it was not. Imagine my excitement when he announced that he was developing an app (iOS: Dollify) where we could make our own! You can choose skin tone, eye color, hair color, clothing, jewelry, freckles/no freckles, etc. I wish I could say the possibilities are endless, but the app was just released this week, so things might be added in the future.

With the app’s free version, you can create a maximum of TWO dolls, but you can continue to edit them infinite times. OR, you can contribute to David’s hard work and pay the $6.99 in order to gain access to more options and an endless number of dolls.

Movie Review by Kristin: NO SLEEP ‘TIL CHRISTMAS

Hello there!

So, last week I decided to record a Christmas movie on my DVR called NO SLEEP ‘TIL CHRISTMAS. The movie aired on Freeform and stars Charles Michael Davis, Odette Annable and Dave Annable. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to actually watch it until last night because . . . the holidays, amiright?

SYNOPSIS: A bartender and a businesswoman find they only have one thing in common; insomnia.

I actually really liked this one. It had the perfect amount of comedy along with the usual level of predictability, but it all blended really well together. I admit, watching the two main characters deal with insomnia gave me a bit of anxiety haha. The only thing I was a little confused about was that this isn’t really a Christmas movie. It’s almost like ‘Christmas’ was just slapped into the title to reign in all the Christmas movie hunters lol.

Despite that, I thought it was still a great movie. Real life husband and wife, Dave & Odette Annable obviously have incredible on-screen chemistry and they engage in pretty comedic witty banter throughout the entire movie. I’d definitely recommend checking it out, just don’t go into it thinking that it’s a full-blown Christmas movie because it’s not. If you’re looking for a funny little rom-com with a gorgeous cast and a touch of holiday spirit, then this is worth the watch!

“It’s Officially Official!” | The TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE Sequel is Coming to Netflix!

Ladies & gents, Netflix has announced the sequel to TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE, reuniting stars Lana Condor and Noah Centineo.

The film is based on the popular YA To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy by New York Times Bestselling Author Jenny Han.

Production Companies include Awesomeness Films, Ace Entertainment and Overbrook Entertainment.
