Day 11 of My Favorite Things

april

For Day 11 of my favorite things, I’m going with TV shows.

Yes, when we were younger we all heard that too much television rots your brain, but I’m a firm believer that it can stimulate your mind as well!  I mean, when you watch mysteries/thrillers, don’t you find yourself THINKING about what might happen next?  When you watch comedies, don’t you laugh out loud?  Laughing is healthy!

True, I might just be trying to justify the fact that I watch A LOT of TV, especially since I do reviews for certain shows.  But I genuinely find it exciting to transport myself into another world for an hour.  It’s sort of like acting.  As someone who is passionate about writing, I watch my favorite shows and wonder what it might’ve been like in the writer’s room coming up with ideas and character plot lines.

Call me a nerd if you want to, but I look at it as creative energy needing to be released! 🙂

Game of Thrones – Season 5 Premiere | April 6 on HBO

8
The day has finally arrived!! Season 5 of Game of Thrones premieres tonight, April 12th at 9/8c on HBO.

Here is a summary I found online of where we left the major characters:

Tyrion Lannister

Derided as “the imp” and the perennial underdog, Tyrion was on death row for the murder of evil King Joffrey. He was let out of jail by his big brother Jaime Lannister but instead of immediately escaping, Tyron strangled his girlfriend and killed his father Lord Tywin Lannister. Tyrion made his get away with the assistance of Varys, a eunuch, who parcelled him in a small box, to be shipped to Pentos. His destiny will be of major interest.

Arya Stark

The young tough nut has set sail for the city of Braavos after her captor, Sandor Clegane, aka The Hound, appeared to be mortally wounded during a rumble with Brienne of Tarth. Brienne had made a vow to the deceased Catelyn Stark that she would protect Arya but the young Stark took off after the rumble confounding Brienne, and her offsider Podrick. It remains to be seen what became of the Hound.

Queen Daenerys Targaryen

The Mother of Dragons is overseeing Meereen – home to mercenaries, freed slaves and dragons. However she’s had to chain two of her three fire breathing friends after one of them baked a young child. But the third, largest and most aggressive of the trio, is still on the loose. Rounding that dragon up will no doubt be high on her list of things to do.

Sansa Stark

Arya’s older sister was married against her will to Tyrion but fled following the murder of King Joffrey. She was spirited away to the conniving Lord Petyr Baelish, aka Little Finger. In the last episode the sultry and demure Sansa had a goth makeover and remains pivotal to the plot. Will she fall under the spell of Littlefinger?

Littlefinger

Lord Petyr Baelish bumped off his wife Lysa, who was also Sansa’s aunt. Along with Lady Olenna Tyrell, he was behind the murder of Joffrey. Littlefinger cannot be trusted and murdering anyone in his way is his hobby. Taking Sansa as his next wife looks to be high on his agenda.

Cersei and Jaime Lannister

This incestuous pair are twin brother and sister by day, reunited lovers by night. They are the biological parents of King Tommen Baratheon. How they react to the death of their father Tywin, who was also the Hand of The King, will be a major turning point. Especially since Jaime let the caged imp out and Cersei wanted him dead. Someone will need to replace Tywin and guide Tommen, who is not old enough to rule in his own right.

Stannis Baratheon

The wannabe king turned up at Castle Black at the right time to help Jon Snow and the Night’s Watch bring down the Wildlings. Stannis, who is supported by his priestess Melisandre and his loyal Hand and confidant Ser Davos, borrowed a cart load of money to finance a new army so they can march toward King’s Landing where the Lannisters are based. Stannis is the younger brother of late King Robert Baratheon, who married Cersei, and he claims to be the rightful king because he knows Joffrey was born out of incest.

Jon Snow

The bastard child of the House of a Stark and a steward of the Night’s Watch, ended up burying, make that burning, his Wilding love Ygritte. She died after the Wildlings attacked Castle Black which Snow was defending and in danger of losing until Stannis rolled-up.

Bran Stark

Snow’s little brother (or who he considers his brother), who is unable to walk and is guarded by Hodor, is now north of the Wall and inside a tree. Apparently he doesn’t appear in season five, although last we saw he was told he would never going to walk again, but fly.

Day 10 of My Favorite Things

april

Day 10 of my favorite things in light of National Siblings Day!

Even though they annoy the crap out of me at times, I have to admit that I have two cool older brothers. One of them cried when I was born because he wanted a little brother, but he wouldn’t know what to do without me! Haha!

We’ve definitely had our share of fights over the years, but we’ve also had a ton of laughs. So here we are a few months ago at a Motley Crue concert at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. My oldest brother has always been a fan of theirs and has never seem them live. I decided to buy tix to their Farewell Tour, and it was the first time the three of us went out alone without our friends joining us. It was a blast and we’re doing it again this September! 🙂

Day 9 of My Favorite Things

april

I’m a day late in posting day 9 of my favorite things, but I had a good reason! Yesterday was my 31st birthday, so I was a little busy lol.

In any case…day 9 of my favorite things is dedicated to my favorite stores!  Two of my favorite stores EVER are Target and Barnes & Noble.

Why, you ask? I mean, because why not??

Target has it all. Cute clothes at reasonable prices, entertainment, home decorating, affordable groceries and a ton of cleaning products and candles.  Really, you can’t go wrong.  I’m all about bargains and getting more for less…not because I have to, but because I find it fun lol.  I recently downloaded Target’s Cartwheel app for the phone and it’s awesome! It allows you to choose 10 items from a list of options and adds those 10 to a barcode.  When you checkout, you just show the cashier your barcode and it deducts the savings rather than having to show hundreds of coupons.

My love for Barnes & Noble is self explanatory! I love books! I love the smell of them, I love the feel of the pages and it’s probably the only time it’s acceptable to judge a book by its cover. I own an iPad and a Nook, but there’s just something about holding an actual book that makes me happy.

Luckily, for my birthday yesterday, I was given giftcards to both, which is what sparked this post!

So download that Cartwheel app and join Barnes & Noble’s annual membership and you’ll discover just why I love these particular stores!

Unfriended – In Theaters Friday, April 17th

Ushering in a new era of horror, Universal Pictures’ Unfriended unfolds over a teenager’s computer screen as she and her friends are stalked by an unseen figure who seeks vengeance for a shaming video that led a vicious bully to kill herself a year earlier.

After Universal executives saw a test screening of Unfriended terrify a test audience, the studio acquired the thriller that was developed and conceived by visionary filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter).  Directed by Levan Gabriadze, Unfriended is written by Nelson Greaves, produced by Bekmambetov and Greaves, and executive produced by Jason Blum for Blumhouse Productions (Ouija and Paranormal Activity, The Purge and Insidious series). www.unfriendedmovie.com

Day 8 of My Favorite Things

april

I’m dedicating day 8 of my favorite things to my favorite place(s)…New Jersey/New York.

I went to visit family last year around this time to celebrate my 30th birthday and had an amazing trip! My niece got to see a pile of snow for the first time, and we missed a snow storm by a few miles.  I’m pretty sure her, my brother and I were the only ones excited when we saw them salting the streets in preparation! haha.

We took a short trip to NYC to show her around for the first time and it was so much fun. It was freezing, and I ended up losing a hat and ONE glove on our travels, but it was all worth it! I could’ve lived without the cab rides that almost gave me multiple anxiety attacks though lmao!

We even got to have my birthday dinner at Justin Timberlake’s restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen, Southern Hospitality. If you ever get a chance to eat there…DO IT!! The food is amazing!

Here are some of my favorite pictures from our trip:

Day 7 of My Favorite Things

april

My favorite thing for day 7 of April is CHAPSTICK.

I realize how lame this sounds, but I absolutely can not live without chapstick! Cue the Napoleon Dynamite jokes haha!  No, seriously…

I usually always use regular Avon chapstick, but I recently started using this Raspberry scented lip butter from Nivea, and it’s absolutely amazing.  It smells incredible and it doesn’t feel sticky.

So do yourself a favor and try it!  You’ll thank me later!  🙂

Late Night Video: Seth Meyers Invites Game of Thrones Fave to Dinner Party

LMAO this is hilarious!

Nina Dobrev announces exit from ‘The Vampire Diaries’

Well, TVD fans…I come bearing bad (or good) news…depending on which side of the Elena Gilbert fence you stand on.

We recently saw the exit of Steven R. McQueen (Jeremy Gilbert) from the show this season and now we know that Nina Dobrev (Elena Gilbert) will be leaving as well.

After posting a ton of pictures celebrating Easter weekend with some of her friends and castmates, Nina posted the following on her Instagram account:

3

Dearest TVD Family,

I’ve just spent the most beautiful weekend on Lake Lanier in Georgia with my own TVD Family, the cast and crew of The Vampire Diaries. I want to be the first to tell you that it wasn’t just a holiday celebration, it was a goodbye party. I always knew I wanted Elena’s story to be a six season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime. I was a human, a vampire, a doppelganger, a crazy immortal, a doppelganger pretending to be human, a human pretending to be a doppelganger. I got kidnapped, killed, resurrected, tortured, cursed, body-snatched, was dead and undead, and there’s still so much more to come before the season finale in May. Elena fell in love not once, but twice, with two epic soulmates, and I myself made some of the best friends I’ll ever know and built an extended family I will love forever.

There’s more to come before we wrap this up, and I promise you’ll get to hear all about my experiences over the next month as we approach the season finale (I have given an exclusive interview for the June issue of SELF Magazine that I am excited for you to see!), but until then I invite you to hop on the roller coaster ride that is Elena Gilbert’s life and join me as I celebrate her and prepare to say goodbye to her — and to my work family — as I move on to the next chapter of my life. I want to share this goodbye with all of you (this weekend’s pictures were just the beginning). You, the wonderful fandom who gave more love, support and passion than anyone could have ever imagined seven years ago, when a young Degrassi girl from Canada showed up in LA to audition for ‘that Twilight TV show.’ 😉 I love you all. Fasten your seatbelts. If you think you know what’s coming, you don’t.

Love, Nina

Now, this might come as a shock to some of you, but if you’ve been to any of the fan conventions, you would know that the cast has been hinting at the show ending soon anyway. This news also comes after we learned that Chris Wood (Kai Parker) has been cast in a new pilot called Cordon. Michael Trevino (Tyler Lockwood) has also been cast in a new pilot, which means his fate on the show is unknown as well.

With that being said, the cast shouldn’t have to urge fans to continue tuning in to the show. Julie Plec, Kevin Williamson, the writers, cast and crew have done an amazing job keeping this show interesting and clever, so, as a fan, you shouldn’t have to be convinced to keep watching. Be the true fans I know you are and watch how everything pans out! Who knows? Maybe this is all going to end up being a dragged out April Fool’s joke!

If you have any theories as to how Elena will eventually leave the show, feel free to comment on this post!

Either way…The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8/7c on The CW, so keep the fandom alive, peeps! 🙂

Day 6 of My Favorite Things

april

In light of today being opening day for baseball, I’m brought to another one of my favorite things…watching sports games.  I was born in NJ and grew up as a Yankees fan.  We moved to FL when I was young and I also grew to love the Marlins.

Are you confused by this?  It wouldn’t be the first time! LOL! You are absolutely allowed to like two teams…especially since they’re in different leagues!  So don’t judge!

Being a Marlins fan, I’ve had the opportunity to meet some amazing people.  My niece and I went to FanFest a few years ago and met some of my greatest friends. We even kinda became friends with some of the player’s wives, who are absolutely awesome!  One of my favorite people that used to play for us is John Baker.  Talk about an all around great person with an equally great wife and family.  It’s things like that (being a great person) that make you want to follow a player’s career regardless of what team they play for down the road.

Sports and great people…yes, please!

I also love going to basketball and football games, so I’m not leaving anyone out!  There’s just something about being at a game in a packed stadium (well maybe not “packed” for the Marlins unfortunately), that makes the game even more exciting.  Hearing how loud everyone gets and rooting for your team with a bunch of strangers?  Not sure it gets any better than that!

Day 5 of My Favorite Things

april

My post yesterday mentioned that I’d gotten a tattoo of a claddagh and my mother’s maiden name.  This leads me to my next favorite thing…TATTOOS!!

I’m all about self expression and art, so the fact that you can display this on your body is interesting to me.  I have 6 tattoos at the moment, and am actually thinking about my 7th.

It upsets me when I hear about employers judging prospective employees based on whether or not they have tattoos.  I’m about to be 31 years old, I work full time, attend school online, work for an awesome website (Variety Radio Online), I don’t drink or smoke…but I’m tattooed.  Does that make me a horrible person? Uhhh…NO! 🙂

So before judging someone who has tattoos, take a moment to ask what they mean to that person.  My claddagh tattoo with my mother’s maiden name is a constant reminder of how I was raised with amazing grandparents and I wear it proudly!

Day 4 of My Favorite Things

april

For Day 4 of my list of favorite things, I’m going with Writing.

I’ve had a passion for writing ever since I can remember.  It’s a way for me to express myself in a way that words can’t.  Have you ever written a letter to someone that you knew you weren’t going to send?

Writing can be considered a healthy way to vent, and even give your thoughts physical release.

My love for writing has also driven me to choose Journalism as my major at school.  I’m lucky enough to have been given the opportunity to write blog reviews of TV shows for a site called Variety Radio Online as well.

Try it!  Go out and get yourself a journal!  You’ll thank me later!  🙂

Day 3 of My Favorite Things

april

Since I listed my heritage as one of my favorite things yesterday, I thought I’d list something similar today…the claddagh.

A claddagh ring is a traditional Irish ring given to represent Friendship Loyalty and Love, which are three of the most important qualities a person can have.  The hands represent Friendship, the heart represents Love and the crown represents loyalty.

There have been theories as to what relationship status a person holds depending on how they wear their ring.

According to Irish author Colin Murphy, the way in which a Claddagh ring was worn with the intention of conveying the wearer’s relationship status:

On the right hand with the point of the heart toward the fingertips, the wearer is single and may be looking for love.
On the right hand with the point of the heart toward the wrist, the wearer is in a relationship.
On the left hand with the point of the heart toward the fingertips, the wearer is engaged.
On the left hand with the point of the heart toward the wrist, the wearer is married.

I’ve always worn a claddagh ring since I was a little girl and that tradition has passed on to my niece.  When my maternal grandparents passed away within 5 months of each other, I even got a tattoo of a claddagh done on my left wrist on top of their namesake. It’s a way to remember two of the best people I’ve ever known along with something that holds a great message.

Day 2 of My Favorite Things

april

Another one of my favorite things is my heritage.

I’ve been lucky enough to have been born into two very different cultures. My father was born in Havana, Cuba and my mother is of Irish descent.

There are so many things to love about each side!

Celebrating Noche Buena (Christmas Eve) every year with family and friends is definitely a highlight for me.  On the opposite side of the spectrum, having corned beef and cabbage to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day is also a lot of fun!

It’s incredible to think that I have one side of the family who doesn’t speak a word of Spanish, and the other side who can either speak both OR only Spanish.  It’s always a learning experience, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.  🙂
